What is the quality of Guatemala's fruits or vegetables ?

Hello

What is the quality of Guatemala's fruits or vegetables ?

There are cities in Central America ( for example the city of Panama City. This is not the case in the cities of the Chiriqui province of Panama ) in which most of the fruits or vegetables that are marketed are imported (they arrive by refrigerated container) and, above all, of very inferior taste quality to those found in countries like Morocco, Turkey, the Republic of Georgia ( example : tomatoes sold by the best supermarkets in Panama City city are hard as wood and they have no taste, while their price is very high. Example : a small punnet of blackberries is currently sold for 8 USD and it happens that a tray that has just been purchased is not edible ).

Did you encounter the same problem in Guatemala ?

Thank you.

Seb

that depends. Guatemala has fantastic soil, they row fruits vegetables and coffee here, at the market, some of the produce could blow your mind, but depending on where and when you buy your produce...1f923.svg sometimes it is the produce that is picked early in order to send to places like Panama city

Thank you for your testimony Terrathel.

05 Feb 2024  I live in a border town and produce is both local and imported from Mexico and is sold in the market, not stores. prices have been rising, but still a good deal, imported items from the usa are priced much higher. the quality is usually great here, with some items failing in quality when out of season. but the selection makes it easy to follow seasonal items. current prices on some items; Bananas, $ .07 each, Coconuts, $ .67 each, onions, $1.35/lb, and tomatoes, $1,00/lb.(tomatoes have a short season here) just a few basic items.

Thank you so much for this detailed post.

Hello

What are the names of the supermarkets in the capital of Guatemala in which you can find most of the unprocessed foods that are not found in a traditional market in Guatemala ?

Thank you.

Michel

I have not found a supermarket in Guatemala's capital that sells most of the unprocessed foods that are unavailable in Guatemala's traditional markets but are available, for example, at

https://www.ribasmith.com/ (Panama)

https://www.foodiemarketpanama.com/ (Panama)
