Can foreigners buy and own property in Benin?

I am thinking of relocating to Benin from the UK. I did my secondary school in Benin some 50 years ago and I have fond memories of the place. Therefore, I am thinking of retiring there in Porto Novo. Is there anything I should know? I would probably like to come for a holiday of about 1 month first to visit Porto Novo and make first contacts, with the view of speaking to some Estate Agents.
