Dental Care in Mauritius

Hi Expat members

Hope you're all doing good and had a great weekend!

Wanted to get your opinion on the quality and costs of dental services offered in Mauritius.

From what I know, there are quite a few general dentists in Mauritius - and quite a few have their own cabinets. But have you found enough 'Specialist Dentists' to get more specialised treatments such as braces, dentures, root canals, implants?

A quick search of the medical register shows that there are not many specialists in dentistry.

Is there scope for offering such services in Mauritius? Is the market price sensitive?

Many Thanks!

Hi Cafeaulait01,

Good dentists at affordable prices are always hard to find, "specialist dentists" as you mentioned, even harder. Years of experience, medical equipment, office rent, staff etc will surely be considered before setting up prices, right ?

I don't know anything about the cost of setting up a cabinet, but the demand for specialist health professionals is here. People look forward to professionals they trust and who can provide quality service.

All the very best,
Anoushka

Thanks Anoushka, this is really very helpful insight.

There are many specialist dentists in Mauritius. You just have to know where to go.
All public hospitals have their dental cabinets. Same for private clinics which offer high end services.
Then you have private stand alone practices in most towns.

All of the procedures you mentioned like dentures, implants, braces, etc are routinely performed in Mauritius.
This sector is regulated by the Dental Council of Mauritius.

Now regarding setting up a dental practice here in Mauritius, it's possible if you are bringing something not available in the field in Mauritius.
It will be termed as an investment and as such, you will need an Investor Permit as you will also need to employ people.
You will also need an authorization from the Dental Council.

Therefore, it's possible but not easy.
