Wasanbon and Nerikiri are Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets.
We will host a series of workshops in September where you can learn how to make these sweets using hand carved wooden moulds.
There will be an english and french translator.
Ayumi Uehara and her father, Yoshi Ichihara, from Takamatsu in Kagawa prefecture, carry on the family tradition of Wasanbon. Mr Ichihara is the last artisan in western Japan to practise the craft of Kashikigata, wooden mould carving. These moulds are essential for making traditional Japanese sweets.
For 3 days in September Uehara-san will be at Kouraku kiln in Arita for a series of workshops. Come learn about Japanese tea culture and how to make Wasanbon with traditional wooden moulds. Or try your hand at the unique technique of Nerikiri.
Everyone is welcomed. Young kids may need help from parents but they will definitely enjoy eating their reactions after the workshop!
Every workshop is about 1:30 hours long, 2,500 yen per person.
It includes all materials and a cup of matcha tea at the end to enjoy your sweets.
