This 2-week short course offers a condensed version of the full-time programme, introducing beginners to the sight-size approach through drawing while giving advanced and returning students the option to pursue pastel or oil.
The sight-size approach forms the basis of training the eye to see through a variety of sustained projects, with options including cast drawing, still life, figure (depending on availability), and portraiture. By first drawing in charcoal, students learn to study proportion and value before advancing to the complexities of oils.
Throughout the course James provides continuous demonstrations, allowing students to benefit from his example as well as from individual critiques. The intimate studio environment leads to ongoing discussions on topics such as preparation of materials, composition and studio lighting.
Sessions are held Monday through Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm. The 2-week course costs 800 Euro, not including materials and accommodation. There is an additional charge for students wishing to work from the model on portrait or figure projects. All tuition fees include 21% VAT.
