The Mangalica Festival has become one of the largest gastro events in Budapest. It's free to enter. Frequency : a yearly festival .
Location : Szabadság tér (Liberty square) 5th district, Belváros-Lipótváros, Budapest, near the Parliament and no more, than 250 meters walk from ApartmentIlike ( address : 1054 Budapest Vécsey u. 5 ). It's free to enter .
Exhibitors : Mangalica breeders and distributors, beer and brandy distilleries, wineries, cheesemakers, beekeepers, chili and other artisan food producers, arts and crafts masters.
About the festival : The mangalica pig has a two-hundred-year old history in Hungary, within which 50 years are a success story. The Mangalica is a breed of pig grown especially in Hungary and known also as a curly-hair hog. The ’pork lovers’ can taste sausages and salamis, made from mangalica meat, which is said to be more flavorful and healthier than regular pork. During the three-day celebration there are several stalls selling more than 100 different artisan cheese,honey, ’chimney cake’, mulled wine and variety of hungarian traditional handmade products, as well. In the ’Pálinka Udvar’ you can warm up with a shot of ’pálinka’. This Hungarian speciality is a strong fruit brandy, distilled from a variety of fresh fruits, like apricot, pear or plum.
