Lars Autrande: YOU DIG THE NATURE!
Opens Friday August 11th 2017
at Blank Space
Oslo, Norway –
Blank Space’s newest solo exhibition highlights Norwegian illustrator Lars Autrande with a series of both new and old artworks highlighting the artist’s complicated relationship to nature. Sculptures, silkscreens, and illustrations describe an alternative world where plants have developed an almost nature. Is it a warning, a celebration - or all just good fun from an eccentric personality?
The public is welcome to the vernissage Friday August 11th from 18:00 – 21:00, and every Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 – 17:00 until September 18th 2017.
YOU DIG THE NATURE!
“I aim to tell not only the now, but also glimpse of the past and the future.”
Between branches and botanical studies, in a imaginary world not unlike our own, we meet fabled creatures and mutated machines who fight their battles to survive.
Lars Autrande is a visual storyteller. Narrative illustration, where the artist lures out an extraordinary subject matter with pen-strokes and pictures instead of words or sounds, is particularly effective for of art in a contemporary setting, where communication is primarily visual or technological. This balance of nature vs. technology is a strong undertone of Autrande’s playful pieces.
His works are drawn directly with black ink on paper with no sketching involved. This focuses on the transference of inner thoughts to visual communication - a process that can be hindered easily by censoring yourself with too much with pre-production.
Lars then takes some of these ideas and refines them to be silkscreen prints or sculptures.
