China and Brazil have been progressively strengthening their bonds through business endeavors. China has already been Brazil’s largest trade partner since 2009, and has recently become one of the country’s largest investors. Last year, China invested approximately 12 billion dollars in our country. This year, in just over five months, China has already invested around 6 billion dollars. In May this year, Brazil and China signed a bilateral agreement to establish the Cooperation Fund for projects spanning across multiple segments, including infrastructure, energy, mineral resources, agribusiness and technology. Total investments could amount to 20 billion dollars. Many Chinese companies are already installed in Brazil and several partnerships have been forged with local companies. FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) is now hosting this seminar to help strengthen this bilateral relationship based on a perspective of Brazilian and international law.
