An estimated 47% percent of expats in Mauritius have been vaccinated against COVID-19

The Mauritian vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 has started since March 2021 and to-date, an estimated 47% of expats living in Mauritius have been vaccinated against the virus. 3, 500 expats living all over the world took part in Expat.com's survey and more than 150 of them were living in Mauritius at the time of the survey. 

Of the 47% of expats who were vaccinated, 62% received the AstraZeneca shot and 18% received Sinopharm and 11% received the Covaxin. 53% of expats participating in the study have been vaccinated outside of the country. Those who were not vaccinated in the country had received Pfizer-BioNTech shots as well as Moderna.

Only 7% of expats have explained that they had faced challenges while seeking to get vaccinated in Mauritius. These expats mentioned the vaccines available not being recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the main challenge they faced while getting vaccinated.

Some expats mentioned that they also encountered trouble when enquiring about getting vaccinated with their embassies. “My embassy here in Mauritius has failed me totally and I have not been able to understand what my options are” explained an expat. Overall,  however, only 14% of expats expressed dissatisfaction with the services provided by diplomatic representations of their home country in Mauritius. 

70% of expats who have not yet been vaccinated do intend to get vaccinated in the future. The 30% who do not intend to get vaccinated have explained that they did not trust vaccines or that they did not want to receive the shots proposed by the Mauritian authorities.

63% of expats living in Mauritius who have taken part in the survey were 60 and above, 32% were aged 50 to 59 and the rest were under 50. Seventy six percent of these expats were from France and 22% from the United Kingdom. The others were mainly from Belgium, the US and the Netherlands.
