Record number of deaths

From September 21 to 22, 11 people died from COVID-19. This is a record number of deaths recorded in Mauritius linked to the virus. According to a statement from an official of the Vaccination Committee, only one of the deceased had been fully vaccinated. As a reminder, only 130,000 people have not been vaccinated to date.

Cheaper powdered milk by the end of the year

The State Trading Corporation will import the powdered milk by the end of the year. Indeed, the entity is currently finalizing the contract with a New Zealand supplier. By the end of the year, powdered milk will therefore cost a lot less. Other calls for tenders for commodities such as cooking oil have also been issued.

Pfizer BioNTech finally available

The shipment of Pfizer BioNTech arrived in Mauritius on September 23, 2021. The 76,050 doses of the PfizerBioNTech vaccine are a donation from the United States to Mauritius as part of an effort to immunize the most vulnerable. These vaccines are intended for adolescents aged 16 to 17. The campaign will begin on September 28th. The other doses will be used for booster shots to anyone who has received either AstraZeneca or Covaxin.
