Good areas to live in Mauritius

craigconley

Hi

Looking for recommendations please for good areas to live.

We want to be away from the main tourist places so we don't have neighbours who are partying all the time, but not too isolated.

West coast seems preferable because of the better weather but open to suggestions.

Any advice much appreciated

I'd probably say around Flic and Flac, Tamarin and Black River.

I live in Grand Bay. Technically, it's probably the most touristy place with nightlife. But all the "noise" is isolated to a very small area 1-2 miles north starting from SuperU. The southern part of the town, where I live, is very quiet at night, I would say no quieter. No neighbours celebrating through the night. For me it's an ideal location. Complete peace and quiet around my villa and nightlife just a few miles away.

Hello craigconley,

I would personally suggest considering the Tamarin area over Flic en Flac, as Flic en Flac can get a bit noisy during the weekends. It has a lot of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, which might not be the peaceful atmosphere you are looking for.

Also, since you mentioned to me that you like golf, the Tamarina Golf Club would be conveniently close to you if you choose to stay in Tamarin.

Cheers,

Cheryl

There is a vast difference between what you want and what you actually need. Do you have children who need school? Will you have local transport? Do you want to be within walking distance of a beach? Do you wish to live like an expat all the time or do you want to live like a 'local'?

Please spend some time on the island and then you can decide which area best suits your needs.

Best wishes

Pointe d’Esny / Blue Bay in the SE - definitely very much quieter than Grand Baie / Pereybere and Tamarin / Riviere Noire

Thank you for your response.  My research also refers to the West. If you have to compare the prices of apartments which would be more affordable?  North or West?

I would suggest Tamarin area, and travel to Flic en Flac if you want to experience some night-life, more restaurants etc.
