Aussie and Kiwi moving to Malaysia

Hi everyone, we are a couple with a small child moving to Malaysia for approx 3months (maybe more), can anyone recommend a good area that is cheap, safe with good facilities and accessible to public transport as I dont think we will be game to drive while we are there.
Also the cost of living, like what our monthly (basic) expenses would likely to be for rent food travel ect.

Hi, below is usual budget for family, here in Kuala Lumpur. PWTC(Putra World Trade Centre is nice place to live, since transportation&facilities availability is good.And you can see people from Australia,USA, UK, France, Germany,Iran/Iraq, India, China,Pakistan and Canada.

Here cost of living is moderate(not so costly)

Rent : 2000(min) - 3000MYR (for 2500MYR you can get nice house, but 3k is costly)
Food : depends (usually 15MYR(even less) enough per meal -per head if you have it in restaurents),if you prepare at home, it will be much cheaper.
Transportation : public transportation is so cheap.
