You gave me an idea. I just ordered Kraft Stove Top from Lazada, easier for me than shopee; thanks, I never thought of looking for it online. As for turkeys, they are very large here but cost 4K so we will not spend $80 on too much food for us to eat so roast chicken it will be lol. They used to sell smaller ones from the US (NORBEST I think) for 2k but that was about 10 lbs and very dry.

WOW, I had no idea they were selling turkeys for so much here! I don't think I ever paid more than $20-$25 in the states. No biggie, I'm smoking a whole USDA choice brisket. 1f601.svg

But I'll certainly make note of that turkey spam in the future! 1f609.svg

It is much more expensive here than the States but they are selling frozen turkies shipped from the US which must be a high shipping cost. There is also a local market for turkeys here. I don't have access to that however.

stuffing is a must even without the turkey and tastes better. Just substitute  chicken for turkey.

Local turkeys are available here in my [very rural] barangay.  Here is the 'Before' shot of the turkey I had last year --

Looks like a great bird!  All-organic, free-range ... But when you pluck it --

VerySadTurkeyEdited.jpg

...you find that the breast is missing!  I mean, it's there, but it's a Filipina breast, not an American breast :-)

Saddest turkey I ever saw, frankly.  Nevertheless, asawa ko -- who can cook, in fact, IN FIVE LANGUAGES -- was undeterred.  Onward she went with spices, ovens, knives and other trickery.

She did it!  A full-on American Thanksgiving Dinner ... with a Arab / Filipino twist, including a rice-based stuffing that was absolutely wonderful.  (She is the best cook I've ever known.)

Total success!  Moist, delicious meat -- both dark and white.  Lovely side dishes.  Only thing missing was pumpkin pie.

Everyone, of course, in the barangay heard about the meal.  Starting with the turkey vendor and going all the way to the Chief Engineer of my house.  The house wasn't even under discussion with Engineer Dado Libunao back in November, but he still heard about it.  (He lives in the same barangay as me -- a wonderful man.)

So -- fast forward to this past July -- a few days after the key ceremony when we took possession of the house.  There's some commotion outside.  My neighbor, Kuya Juanito, is calling for me.

"Hey Stef!  Come here.  I have something for you."

DadoTurkey_2.jpg

"Dado said you loved turkeys, so here you go...!"

Can't argue about the freshness...  :-)

@NN3M/DU3 If I may ask, what was the price of the female? I knew someone who raised turkeys for a while and I think the value of a breeding female was about 1500 php, much more expensive than in the US and approaching the price of a frozen one here.

NN3M/DU3

Exactly that, @danfinn ... p1500 for some turkey-shaped bones 😲

To determine the sex of a Turkey you have to examine their POO. Tom turkeys have a different shape POO then a Hen Turkey.

.

If it doesn't past the POO test, you've been scammed.

Regarding NN3M/DU3 post:

---

It isn't that the breast in the Filipina turkey is missing, it is the natural breast. No enhancers, whether steroids or other. Natural breast is best.

Is your turkey a vegetarian or overweight?

NN3M/DU3

@Jackson4 Yes, and beautiful, too.

Enzyte Bob

Thanksgiving Turkeys in the states are bred for eating (breast size Double D) compared to wild Turkeys Triple A.

A wild Turkey can fly up to speeds of 55 mph and far as a mile. Double D's stumble when trying to walk.

The original chest bump was invented by Turkeys and soon was adopted by the NFL.
