Translation of legal documents

BuddyM

Would anyone know the current (approx.) cost of having legal documents, terms, and clauses translated from Vietnamese to English ? A per-page rate ?

Mostly business licenses, shareholder agreements, contracts, Ministry of Trade/Industry documents, etc. They don't need to be notarized or anything, just translated into English for reference purposes. The translator would probably need to specialize in legal jargon. No expensive lawyer please (that will come later I'm sure). Thank you.

Hi BuddyM,

Normally translation service quote the rate per word (not per page).
Or can be per page with condition of not more than 300/400 words
so basically the rate is almost the same.

The rate is depend on how easy or how hard the document is,
however if you want to have a number: it's around 0.02USD/word (for example)
This rate is for the source file in Vietnamese, not the translated file.
Since Vietnamese normally requires more words than English.

Example: in English "how", in Vietnamese "như thế nào"
in English "weather", in Vietnamese "thời tiết"
in English "application", in Vietnamese "ứng dụng" or " cách sử dụng" or "hướng dẫn sử dụng", depend on situation.

You can send one file you want to be translated,
it is easier to check how much would it be.

give or take $100,000 dong per page

Good luck with that!

khanh44

you're right should have read it more carefully.

Legal documents with legal jargons.

I assumed it was just translating common documents like driver's license or wedding certificate which normally cost me $100,000 dong per page.

Yeah it will be pricy.

BuddyM

It should be easy to do as it's simply a business/trade license and its terms that needs to be translated. A shareholder's agreement is more difficult as it sometimes involves specific meanings, even intent, on behalf of the specific shareholders.

You might want to go to VFS Global in HCM. They are sub contracted by the British Embassy and provide translation services. You can google VFS Global HCM. Their website outlines the cost for this service.

Gary - I think you nailed it! Thank you. It appears to be about VND 175,000 per page ($8 USD / page), which sounds about right. Hopefully, they can translate business trade licenses.
