Best cities to live in Austria

Julien

Hi,

It’s not always easy to decide in which area to settle in when moving to Austria. According to you, what are the best cites to live in?

Which regions offer most of the job opportunities, a good quality of life, an affordable cost of living?

Share with us the cities you would recommend to expats and soon-to-be expats in Austria.

Thank you in advance,

Julien

By far the biggest opportunities are to be found in Vienna itself. Culture and museums, as well as sights to visit are also phenomenal. Transport links second to none- you do NOT need a car, busses, trams (my favourite) and underground(for speed) are ample ways of getting round. Properties are one of the most reasonable in Austria. Bear in mind though that summers can be HOT up to 40C rarely, or high 30's at the least. Food and wine excellent.
Graz is probably more reasonable in pricing than Vienna. Good transport links- tram and busses, but no underground. Again though summers are as hot if not hotter than Vienna. Good cultural events, good food, and museums too, as well as universities.
Salzburg has the nearest climate to the UK, summers can be wet with the phenomenon Schnürlregen in abundance (string rain, or light continuous rain). Transport links very good too, with busses and electric trolly busses in abundance. University and music conservatoire also in the city. Very good culture and plenty of museums. Proximity to Bavaria and Germany opening up dozens of more places to visit. Food is also good here, as throughout Austria.
