Don't forget it's Valentines Day today!
😍 - @fluffy2560

Yes another holiday.

I would just as well forget them but I know for many people it is a holiday. Flowers, candy ,bubbly ,dinner diamonds and gifts.

My husband should be glad I do not do holidays any longer.

Everyday is a holiday.

Of course if he should happen to bring home a gift... Never going to happen!!

My poor hubby has gone over to the dentist ambulance to get his last top teeth removed, no fun today!

His regular dentist is on holiday for 2 weeks and the one he saw last week did nada; She even told him to wait for his own dentist, like being 77 with an infected tooth is a good idea! He had it clean up and was given antibiotics but it still is bothering him so out they go!

Not going to be in a lovey dovey mood when he gets home!

I now recall O neg blood type in the US is only 7 percent of the population, in Europe it is closer to 15 percent with the Basque people of Spain having the largest O neg population in the world, forgot the percentage, 25 perhaps?

Japan is 1 percent, super rare.

The body snatcher deal in the Ukraine was not about organs that go back quickly, it was about freeze dried bones and other tissues that are processed for resale out of Germany and sent world wide; mostly to sell in the US.

The thing I recall is that only 7 percent of the US population is O neg; 15 percent in Europe with the Basque people having the highest rate at 25 percent or so.

Japan is 1 percent. Not much.

I remember once in a doctors office they drew my blood; The doctor called his entire staff in to look under the scope saying they had to see this because it is not an everyday thing to see! Freak show time!!

IDK, they say O neg; have a 6th sense , other worldy? No just sensitive to heat, cold and vibrations.Real lizard people;

fluffy2560

Actually the rarest blood type is RH nul. Less then 50 people have that type and must store their blood for an emergency.
No RH antigens in the red blood cells; O neg; is the next rarest thing; Think only 15 percent of the worlds population is O neg.
1 percent of Japans population is O neg, my so had better stay away from knifes!! He is O neg,like me. had to give blood for him during his arm surgery just in case he needed it.
I would of given some of my hip bone too if we had known he needed more bone material.
My husband already had a bone graft from his hip so it would of been my turn to give bone.
I have personally known 3 people who had polio.
My friend Kit who sadly died at age 43 from breast cancer. She was in an iron lung for over a year as a child. One of the bravest people I ever knew; She had a rod put in her spine and one would never know unless she was wearing a swimsuit; She was an expert at dressing to cover up her crooked spine.
My old bF sister was in a wheelchair and my sons childhood doctor on Maui had braces on his legs from polio, nicest doctor too.
The thing is my friend with the rod in her back was raised in the mid west of the USA in the late 1940s, early 50s when they sprayed the crops with DDT. There is a possible link between the pesticide and polio in children.
Of course we hardly hear about that,no one wants to take responsiblity for hurting so many children for profit.
Usually human greed and error are the root of many health issues. - @Marilyn Tassy

My Dad was O- which is pretty common.   He was a popular person during the war.   He was in hospital during WW2 but I don't remember or know why.  I suppose they liked him for his blood.

If your contacts had been vaccinated during childhood, they wouldn't have had that disease.  It was so unnecessary that anyone has to suffer that.  And we're not that far away from polio being eradicated like smallpox.  The US leaving the WHO is just dumb as WHO has done good work in this area.  I suppose the US will eventually become a reservoir for these eliminated diseases.

I don't know about DDT and Polio but I am sure it could or has been looked into.  Who is profiting? The DDT or the polio vaccination manufacturers?   Farmers?

Childhood vaccinations are usually free in most countries as it's a public health concern.

I was vaccinated here in HU for rabies when a dog bit me. It was 6 injections.  Free!  Years later,  I also was bitten in Burma and had to be vaccinated there for the first injection and Bangladesh for the second  (had to pay for both).  The doctor asked me if I wanted the vaccination.  Of course I did! I was grateful for the vaccination in both instances. Better safe than sorry.

Yes,some vax shot are a good idea, polio TB and others.

We had them all so did my son.

They used to scratch a child,s leg with the vax for polio, my mom had all her girls get the vax in their arms; 1950s thinking, she though it would not look attractive for a women to have a scare on her thigh in a swimsuit! Sounds funny now but she was dead serious. Now with everyone getting tats no one even looks twice at a tiny scare; I do not even see the one on my arm, wonder if is wore off?

We got our TB shots via a scratch or a kind of multi-needle pistol contraption.  That was on the upper arm.  Mrs F's is a scratch and mine was the pistol.  I think I was 11 or 12.   I remember my Dad had the pistol marks so obviously that method had been in use for many years.  I think the pistol method has been abandoned as the gun thing was used on many people, so it was like sharing needles!   The first polio vaccination I got on a sugar lump.  I remember the doctor pulled open his drawer and gave me the sugar lump which I ate immediately!

Nearly every other one I've had (and I've had plenty) was a shot in the arm.  Cholera and E-coli was however a powder you mixed up with water and took in a sequence.  They seemed to have stopped it. I was told that it wasn't very effective and the manufacturers withdrew it.  I've had so many Hepatitis jabs, it now says  protected indefinitely for one of those (might be Hep A). And the other one (Hep B) has a very long life - like into the 2030s.  No vaccination for Hep C etc.  Yellow Fever looks like forever.  Looking at my WHO health certificates, I'm due for Typhoid next year.  Lovely.

And then there's COVID.  There will have to a new jab for that and maybe another for when Avian Flu mutates.   That Avian Flu is absolutely everywhere now in the UK.  It must be same in other places.

Valentines Day is a commercial opportunity.   I did give Mrs F a card and she gave me a cake she'd made.  Good enough!

One of my older kids said they were going to a Turkish restaurant, taken by her BF.  I wondered if this would be a case of Kebab Kiss, Shashlik Seduction or a Raki Romance.  Dunno what the other older one was doing but we got an online message for Valentines Day.   The two younger ones were just here and ignored it all.

We should be grateful to be a lizard people.  Some animals have seriously long lives and are immune to some diseases.  We'd have to give up living in houses and move into burrows.

Remember a TV show called V?  It was when alien invaders arrive and they look like improbably glamorous young models. Yet under their 1980s bouffants they were all lizard people intent on enslaving the earth population.

I almost fell off my chair laughing when Diana - one of the main lizard people - ate a guinea pig.

I am sure no guinea pigs were hurt during that sequence.

We exchanged cards; I made tea (butternut chicken curry), I would like to claim the culinary expressions of gratitude, but I saw an interesting ready-made sauce in the Coop, so my being in Mrs C's good books is down to a local co-operative, which being a mining village should have pleased all.

Do they still eat tripe and brawn there?

These were my grandad's favourites.

We had curry as well.  Thai version.  We can get a lot of Thai stuff here but we have to drive to get it.

I remember that tv show, V. Saw the episode where they ate guinea pigs, nasty.

My German ex yoga instructor from Vegas post a few sad posts because of V Day.

He long term BF of 30 years died 4 months ago.

For 30 some years he sent her fresh flowers once a week.

Now that he is gone only her friends give her flowers.

She is very popular in Vegas, well known and often is on the local news.

She owns several businesses , very impressive go getter gal;

Just became a US citizen a couple months ago.

Bought a second home in Hawaii but sold it and returned full time to Vegas. Just for her business es.

Too hard to fly back and forth several times per month.

Not sure what her husband/BF died of but he was in hospice, think it was his heart?

I suppose we should really care for our loved ones while they are still with us.

I am surrounded by windows, my SIL, 2 friends and my own sister.

One friend lost 2 husbands in fact. Ouch!!

I never could figure out the fresh flowers every week deal but it sounds sweet;

My husband got my flowers just a handful of times in 50 years§

Once when I moved to Maui and the other time....Can not remember, it has been so long;

I though Hungarians were flower givers?

I have several nice vases but no flowers. Just as well, can not miss what you never had!

So hubby went yesterday to get a tooth pulled. Checked online before going in. Oral surgeon was suppose to be in but nada.

He saw a nice older man who told him he needs it out but he could not pull it because it needs stitches  and only the surgeon can do that.

Back on Monday, hopefully someone will be at their job!

Looked online for prices for an extraction in the US; Average price is $300. per tooth plus office visit, x rays, follow up care,man now that is a gig!

Windows, yes, I have allot of windows I meant, widows!

People eat capybara in South America.  Those are big guinea pigs.   There's quite a few of them in Szekesfehervar's zoo.  The kids loved looking at them when we visited.  I don't think I could eat one as they are too cute.  But they also get involved in drug busts (click here).

My Dad died in a care home and my brother died in a hospice.  My Mother died in a hospital.  Hospices could be anything.  It just has to be terminal.  They don't try to fix anyone there.  Just make them comfortable. As far as I was told, the hospice was a nice place, very calm and "happy" but people only come out of there in a box.  I guess it's just a place to accept your fate and go through the process.

You could grow your own flowers.  Maybe a window box?   We're expecting flowers fairly soon in our garden. We made a mistake and ended up with dwarf daffodils and not the usual larger ones.  I was surprised but hey-ho.

I had a tooth removed near Etele Plaza (end of Metro 4).  The dentist was a HU woman trained in Indonesia.  She spoke quite good English.  She couldn't get my tooth out.  Just wasn't strong enough.  She told me to come back in a few days and when I did, another dentist was there and he climbed on top of me with a big pair of pliers and he struggled a bit but could get it out.   We were both exhausted after the struggle!  But what a relief!  He was also a dental surgeon and could stitch me up.  I think she could have done it but left it to him.   He did tell me I had very tough teeth and very strong jaw bones.  Not sure about that.  If my teeth were that good, I wouldn't have been there.

I got it.  We have too many windows as well.  Those in the walls/house and on the laptop.

So lazy today.  Mrs F is out helping her cousin and I'm supposed to go to Lidl.

I don't know if I can face it.

Marilyn Tassy

I should be getting ready to take a walk, apples are on sale at Penny market; Strudel time!

OH no, my husband is watching tick tock ATM; Called me over to show me how to make money; Some chick in a tight outfit shaking around for one min; She has over one and a half million views!! What the heck is going on in this world?? Husband said that was at least a $5,000 return for those views and she has other videos out there! Who needs a college degree when all you need is a BBL!!

Off topic but had to share!

My niece was a widow, not window at age 44. Her girl was just 7.

We met her husband in Vegas, nice guy. He had a very good job in IT, good enough for the company to pay them to move from Ca to FL with all expenses covered for their move.

IDK, he drank himself to death;

Made me think of our co ex pat CDW. He has not posted here in ages.

My Niece is in the middle aged single womens club now. She travels with other well to do single middle aged women, goes to concerts, dinners and vacations with her little group of single friends.

Sort of sad in many ways. She had a BF after her husband passed but that sizzled out;

I was a bit upset with her for her lack of morals ; The guy was still married and living with his wife; The wife refused to divorce him because he made boo coo bucks. 12 years ago, $275,000  as the chief of both the fire dept and police force in his small town. Wife was handicapped in a chair and knew he had GFs.Just did not want to say goodbye to his income.

The things people put up with for money!

Now she is reaching older age at 56. Never says a word about finding a husband or BF.

I am afraid there will be tons of single old women in the coming years, not just like old time war widows; more like old party girls.

IDK what happened all my niece said about that guy was he turned out to be a jerk. Probably had more then one GF on the side?

Looks like the sun is trying to come out, betteer hit the highway before they run out of apples;

My grandad had tripe with salt and vinegar if I remember rightly.   I think he got the tripe at the butchers.  Not easy to get it in a supermarket for sure.  People don't know it. Odd looking stuff.

Brawn I remember came ready made in a plastic container and he'd spoon it out.   Apparently the US word for brawn is headcheese.

No worse than pork pies I suppose.  I love pork pies.

Don't get me started on black pudding.  Not keen on that.

Tripe is still very common in Indonesia.

It's available in markets and supermarkets.

How is it eaten?

Marilyn Tassy

Well,  I did get a valentines gift after all.

Unexpected too;

Practical me, a set of new water filters!

My husband says they are pretty much worthless but I can taste the difference.

We buy bottled water for drinking but I filter my water that is used to teas and soups;

IDK, if we have old lead pipes running into our building or not, probably somewhere in the lines would not surprise me.

Tripe, yuck!! My husband would eat that but not me. I draw the line on that and blood sausage, chicken feet, chicken privates, heads etc;

Picked up some grass feed beef and made several meals out of less the a half kilo.

I am not sure how they process the meats bought in shops like Tesco .I bet the animals are feed the same chemical slew as the feed in the US, Mass production.

In Hawaii I drove right through the middle of Parker Ranch on my way to work. Those were nice grass feed beef.

Speaking of cooking, I am trying to figure out what to cook for the next week or so that can be blended into a puree. Hopefully my husband will get to the oral surgeon soon and I know he is not going to be chewing beef anytime soon after that.

Hormone treated beef and chlorine rinsed chicken are illegal in the EU.  So you can be guaranteed, that chemical processing is not done hereabouts. It's one of the trade issues between the EU and Europe.   We don't want those things here. I cannot see anyone backing down on that.

Nothing wrong with water filters as a present.  I got some welding rods once for Christmas.  Brilliant.  Something I can actually use.

Lead pipes aren't great but here, where we get our water via the aquifer, the water is absolutely hard.  It's all limestone filtered. While it tastes great,  it stains all of our chrome fixings.  The only way to get it off is vinegar to try and dissolve it.   We have to use the special salt in the dishwasher to turn it into soft water otherwise all our dishes would be streaky and less shiny.   Anyway, for lead pipes, over years the limestone builds up inside so the lead is insulated from the flow of water.  That's what I read about it.   But here, at our house, all the pipes from the water company are plastic.  The pipes inside the house are also plastic or galvanised steel.

We have to be careful about pipes exposed outside.  Last night it was -7C so we could end up with a broken pipe.  We have to turn everything off outside over winter.   Our water meter is below the frost line (like 1m) and insulated.   It's like in a box, buried in the ground, around 1m square and maybe 1m deep.  We put big insulated blocks around the meter and valve.  We had a frozen meter when we bought the house and the hole was completely flooded.   Water company came and pumped it all out and replaced the meter.  It was a horrible mess.

Good luck with that dental surgeon.  They are quite good here but there are occasional idiots who shouldn't be in the medical/dental business. That emergency dental service in Kiraly Utca is one of the worst.  Hope Hubby is not going there!

Black Pudding might be a crime against humanity.

I've gone off UK bacon. It has so much salt in it.  I've considered soaking it beforehand to try and get the salt out.  Still, it's far better than the local bacon although some of the German slices are very nice and the local Hungarian versions have been improving, especially the smoked ones.

Husband really does not care too much who pulls his tooth out but tomorrow it is a little lady who he has seen in the past on call.

Good luck though, years ago she pulled out a tooth for me that had cracked because the stupid German airlines delayed our flight and feed a full flight of people in a hotel where they loaded us all up into overnight;$They served some slop with rice and water to us. I swear my first bit of rice and tears ran down my face. I wanted to scream but controlled myself in front of so many people. The rice was so hard and it cracked my side tooth right down the middle;

Had to wait until we came back to Hungary to fix it. No way was I paying US emergency prices if I could handle the pain for months;

This small little oral surgeon  was hanging all her body weight in the air to get under leverage to get the root out.

I thought she would break my neck. After that I was treated for over a year at the dental school to get a pin and bridge put in. Never flying on that airline again if I can avoid it!

I did not let them know because I was sure they would not believe me. Out of all those hundreds of people, why me? Must of been a rock in the rice.

I have had my share of wacko dentist here in HU. Our regular dentist seems fine the few times I saw her it was not bad.

My husband gets very worked up about dentists; In the old commie days when he was 8 or so his school took them all in to see the dentist; He had about 4 cavities and the dentist worked on all of them in one sitting! What sort of monster dose that to a small child? After that he never wanted his teeth worked on, if it hurt, he just asked to get it pulled out!

My step father was a POW in WW2 and in Korea, not sure what war it was think it was Korea. They pulled his teeth out one by one for their fun! He was 26 and the US gov; gave him a full set of dentures! He defo gave at the office!

- @Marilyn Tassy

It's surprising how much effort it takes to get teeth out.  There's that crack when it's broken free of the bone and then it's easy I am sure. I'm sure people can pull their own teeth if they really have to.

I remember Tom Hanks in Cast Away bashing his own teeth out in Cast Away.  He used an ice skate and a rock.   An excellent movie btw.  One of my all time fave actors and movies.  Filmed in Fiji.  If only we all had work like that to do (acting in Fiji, not teeth removal)

I had a load of fillings as a kid.  The dentist was clearly being paid for volume.  If the bugger was still alive, I'd have sued his socks off.  I am sure he filled perfectly good teeth. It instilled fear of the dentist for me.   My eldest (mid-30s) does not have any fillings at all.  That's flouride and electric toothbrushes for you.

Our dentist here seems to have retired and has faded away.  Now we're seeing a friend of my BIL. I haven't been for ages but I think we should go and give the toothy peggies a once over.   Maybe the appointment should be at 2.30 (that's such an  old joke, it's got whiskers).   Best to have a check over before going anywhere.  No way one wants their tooth hurting so far from home and in the 3rd world. I should think of it as spring cleaning.

Speaking of Spring, I am really fed up with the cold right now but that's for another topic.

Maybe CDW's health issues have overtaken him.  Sad if that's the case.

Hubby at the dentists office ATM.

Too early for me, I usually go with him for mental support.

Yes it was terrible having that cracked tooth for my entire vacation. I got used to it, would of just had it pulled out if it got infected or really hurt; Just had to be careful when eating anything and chew on the other side.

I guess now we will have to deal with getting some new dentures or fix the older ones after this tooth pulling is over with.

Poor hubby, the last vanity...

Our mom used to pull out our baby teeth with pliers! One big hank and it usually was over with, got a few coins under our pillow that night.

Yes, hope CDW is OK but probably had some issues. Sad to know one is hurting themselves when so many people have issues that they never knowingly caused themselves.

Mmmm, I have to go to the Fang Farrier (UK Army colloquialism for the Dentist) next month.  I've had a persistent cyst in my gum for a long time now and nothing seems to shift it; it doesn't bother me, there is no pain, discharge or smell, just a swelling that has been x-rayed, scanned, you name it, to confirm it is benign.  The dentist previously said it would need surgery to remove, but it is beyond what a high street dentist does and I would need to go to Hospital.  I have a private dental plan and bizarrely, from my wife, an NHS medical pension plan which gives me cover paid for by the NHS, but all that is not enough to sort this.  I suspect I shall politely decline any further poking and shoving in my gum beyond the routine check.

IDK, my husband just got home from the dentists. The surgeon is not in till Thursday!

What is going on here? She is suppose to be in today.

At least my hubby talked with our regular dentists assistant. We will go in later today and have her poke around and see what is up. She had a 2 week vacation and he has seen at least 3 dentists in her absence.

One was her father, a family gig here, 3 dentists working with the same surname, all related.

At least it is covered by the TAJ card, so far anyways.

I looked up prices in the US, min; of $300. per extraction! Plus office visit, x rays and who knows what else they charge for.

They do have other surgeons he can see but they are outside our network and he prefers to go where we are assigned to go.

I watched a full hour interview last night between Tucker Carlson and Victor Orban on U tube. Might be easy enough to find if anyone is interested in viewing it.

He was doing the old tap dance with pleasing Trump and Putin.

The video on U tube was called, USAID and Hungary.It is new, just a few days old.

Carlson and Orban.  I'd rather have my tooth pulled out!  We've had similar problems where the dentist is on holiday and had to go somewhere else.

I was amused to see Musk had fired all the nuclear bomb people with Trump's endorsement.  Then they had to row back fast after realising no-one was monitoring the stockpile or doing any work on it.   Then they found they couldn't find the people to give them their job back as they'd disabled their e-mail addresses.  Well, there you go, it's obviously not the way to deal with government or people, treating it as a software development problem.  Dangerous behaviour but no doubt enjoyed by Putin and Iran. Nudged the schadenfreude meter that one.

That idiot Vance got almost no applause for his tone deaf speech in Munich.  It's kind of interesting that he chose to castigate the UK and Scottish government over religious and abortion rights.  That's because he's only able to speak English and doesn't know what is going on in all the other countries.  Trumpist politicians are almost certain to stick the boot in on only English speaking countries.  Others are just inaccessible.   Just made me think people are really being led by donkeys.

I had something similar except mine became infected. My dentist/dental surgeon drilled through my tooth to get the crap out and that worked for a bit but it didn't last and eventually he said it had to come out as it was all in the roots.  I agreed as it was becoming intolerable.   The goo in infections neutralises the anaesthetic so he really loaded me up to numb it.  But he was a big bloke and he got  it out no problem and without me struggling too much. It all healed up super quickly.

I guess for yours, you'll need a general knocking out.

Bit of fentanyl will take you to another place.  I've had sedation before.  First time it was absolutely wonderful. Best dreams I've ever had.  Mrs F was laughing at me as I was talking nonsense. She could have used the opportunity to get me to confess to being on the grassy knoll with an AK47. I would have agreed to anything.    Apparently I was snoring my head off.

Second time, I expected more and to be in a happy place.  But I was back in the room very quickly.  Strangely enough I was really hungry and they gave me tomato soup.  Maybe it's like hash where you get the munchies.  I could have had 3 or 4 bowls of soup but they didn't have more and gave me a sandwich. I was in and out of there and I didn't get chance to treat it as a holiday.

In the end it wasn't anything special and they didn't find anything.

In Lower Austria, 25 to 50 people are being investigated for suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization. The majority is the terrorist militia of the Islamic State (IS), such as the State Office for State Protection and Combating Extremism (LSE). Radicalization mostly happens on the Internet, emphasizes Roland Scherscher, head of the LSE, and executes: "The network is everywhere, whether in the city or in the countryside."

This is a concern.

I suppose more reasons to suspend Schengen.

Strange these things are popping up so visibly on the eve of the German election.

Every incident like in Villach and recently in Germany pushes voters to the right.

Makes you wonder if it's being coordinated from elsewhere

Meh,  everyone involved must surely be dead. Might as well look for what happened to Mary Queen of Scots for all the good it will do.

Anything with Sky News in it is probably dipped in Murdoch bias juice. One of Trump's friends.

I watched Vance,s speech last night.

He seemed to really get under their skin.

I know the UK, France, Germany and a few others had an emergency follow up meeting the next day in Paris.

I never really paid much mind to politics but this is starting to be somewhat interesting.

As a US citizen, if it saves the US tax payers money that they can use for their own country then let the chips fall where they may.

Sort of disgusts me to think my 77 year old sister is slugging away at work when so any freeloaders are sitting around playing video games on tax payers money.

That Delta fight that landed upside down is really something. What a fright to be hanging by your seat belt.

I would be interested in viewing any footage of the landing.

My eldest sister is really having a tile with our half sister. I feel she really needs to be locked up for everyones good; At least till she wakes up to reality, if possible;

6 months now and has not even looked for a job!

The eldest made her a resume and found job leads for her but she never bothered with any of it!

They have nearly come to blows a few times too!

The younger one sleeps till noon or 1 pm. Takes hours to fix herself food and shower and then is ready to start her day!

She has done some furniture moving and switching things about without permission for the elder sister; Tossing things out, hiding things, taking over cabinets and generally being a pain;

My SIL just wrote me, I knew she was helping the younger sister for awhile but did not wish any credit for it so I never mentioned it.

Now she tells me she sent her money for over a year and gave her a solid action plan to save her house etc;

She never took the advice, only the cash!

There is just so much family can do for someone who is not willing to do for themselves.

I adviced the elder one to call elder abuse or get a restraining order out if needed.Terrible situation.

Many of the elder things are missing, I suspect that are in a pawn shop!

Large items too like a guitar and power washers.

The elder one really concerns me, she had a hip replacement a couple years ago and ankle surgery with a bone graft. The younger one went nuts and ran towards her like she was going to punch her in the face! My eldest was a black belt in 5 forms of Karate and still has the moves. She kicked out but did not make contact.

She must have allot of patience because I would of already thrown her , her dog and her things out and changed the locks. I wonder if it is illegal to throw someone out in the winter?

Hubby feels much better today, had his tooth pulled out yesterday. Poor thing, he is actually considering pulling out all of his teeth to just be done forever with dentists.
