Silly question, but can you tell us what threat Russia poses, please? If you could outline the major points, it would help clarify the issues. - @Fred

Germany has already got plans in place.

Grammar is less than important in many circumcisions, but getting the vocabulary right is essential. - @Fred
Bit of irony there.
I never knew that grammar was a necessity in such quasi-medical procedures.

Nowadays that's known as genital mutilation. - @fluffy2560

Actually, not so much.

This is, in my most humble of opinions, because it's the norm in the US and Israel. If it was not, it would have been condemned by now. Medical options vary.

As for FGM, that's clearly pointless, but it's also misunderstood.

My daughter had it, but the press neglect to mention a common form in Indonesia is wiping the bits with a clean, damp cloth.

Absolutely no harm whatsoever, but "Baby girls have cleansing ceremony" doesn't make for as striking a headline as "FGM is common in Indonesia".

They might well have, but can you articulate the actual threat?

In summary, Putin and his fanboi Trump presumably want to re-establish the Soviet borders and maintain Putin as an autocrat.  They and the oligarchs want to enrich themselves at our expense.  We'd lose our freedom of speech rights and democracy (which are locally under attack by Orban). We need our right to choose our leaders and I don't mean gerrymandered elections.  We also will lose our rights to live our lives as we wish, i.e. freedom of expression.

But you can read about it yourself, you don't need a lecture from me.

It's a contentious issue.  The USA version is based on some nonsense I am unclear about and Israel and elsewhere, some misguided religious reasons, especially for girls.  It's not physically required and part of subjugation.  If it was a necessity, evolution would eventually take care of it.

As you will know, FGM is illegal back at the UK so that's going to possibly be a difficulty should you and your daughter return there and if your daughter ever ended up in a hospital and they find out, there would be questions to answer. You know this.

Except the German Government is only "considering" it.  I recall they used to be a feature of many department stores' underground car parks; we had some of them on our deployment plans back in the 80's; I suspect they may have been switched to other uses, like much of the military estate in Germany post the Cold War.  This weekend's elections will probably kick this out of play.

That's opinion, not evidenced facts.

Can you actuallly show Putin wants to rebuild the CCCP or is a military threat to Germany, France, or the UK?

Can anybody show how Putin, who is clearly a dictator as evidence by undisputed facts, has actually committed crimes against states that other countries have whiter than white records on?

The loudest gripes are mostly from countries that are as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo. Iraq and WMD, anyone?

Hypocrisy is a lot easier to find than facts.

As for enrichment, can you cite a British PM or US president from this century that didn't use their office to feather their nest?

Perhaps we could start with Teflon Tony. In other words, you can't complain about one without moaning about most. That doesn't mean it's right, but it does show it's commonplace.

So, back to the question  - What evidence do we have to show Putin is a danger to other countries?

There's plenty of evidence to show Russia is under threat, but not much the other way.

Not one inch eastwards

Look at NATO now and the lie stands out. I can see how Russia would see NATO'S military expansion to their borders as a threat, especially if Ukraine has joined as that would leave Moscow open to a classic pincer attack.

To show a threat, we need evidence.

Indeed, I remember those car parks when I worked there.  Big sliding steel doors to seal off parts of the parking areas. Switzerland has or had an extensive bunker system.  It was in the news a while back there were going to close them down but I wonder if they will be bringing them back now things are a changin'.

My god!

A hospital could find out she had a nonsurgical, noninvasive, totally harmless, ceremonial wipe with a dampened medical swab.

That's female circumcision in that bit of the world.

I deserve years in prison for allowing that terrible crime, so I will fly back to England in the morning and hand myself in at the nearest cop shop.

Please send money for my air fare and hotels. I will need some extra for delicious  Indian food and a UK sim card with a generous data package. I think the police will need to interview my entire family for two or three weeks, so deposit ten thousand quid in my account in order to ensure justice is served.

I'm typing this with the middle finger of my right hand.

Ah, there he is, the Fred we love and know.

Anyway, I don't do homework.  You have to do it for yourself.  And of course it's opinion but it's reasoned opinion.  If you want to improve your knowledge, stretch back to the shooting down of aircraft overlying there and then move on to  trying to explain away Putin's invasion of Ukraine, the autonomous region of Crimea and interference since then.  I've worked in Ukraine and people, even Russian speaking people, were not happy about it.

It's there for all to see he's a threat to us all who are close to the borders of Ukraine, Russia and all.  He's probably a world threat. As is Trump.  I ain't no friend of Tony (Blair I suppose, didn't read your link, meh).

Currently, my limited mind reading only extends to those in Fluffy Towers.  I haven't managed to get any spies into Putin's office or get a brain control worm implanted in there yet.  If I did, I'd probably find a load of other competing worms there.

I don't know (or care much) what goes on in Indonesia but if that's all that is going on, then fine.  However, in other countries, it's far worse and just child abuse.  And people do get arrested for this stuff, usually at an airport leaving the UK to go and do some FGM in Africa or wherever.  I read a BBC report on it.

If it's innocent, I am sure you can sort it all out explaining away the extent of your traditions when you arrive in the UK with your daughter.   If you want to continue arguing, what's up with your hands? Did they chop the other one off?  Was that Justice served for some reason?

Anyway, it was your autocorrect inserting circumcisions instead of circumstances that led to this discussion.  I found that humorous as an example of autocorrect with your sentence on correct use of vocabulary, hence the irony.

One big reason we never invested much in Hungary is because my husband always thought they would be back, just like Arnold!

He saw too much in his youth to ever feel 100% like Hungary was going to last long as a democratic country;

He knew people in his youth who had to take in families into their homes if their homes were deemed too large for just one or two people.

In fact his friend whos father died for their flat, mentioned that in the past how in 1956, they super sweet flat in the 5th was empty and it was first come first serve to take it over;He had a rival for the flat who tried to blackmail him into giving him the flat. He told him where to go and the guy went to the police to tell tall tales about evernt in WW2. Not even sure if they were true or not but during the revolution it was mad. people were looking for blood everywhere;

So with that said, it is possible the gov; could change laws and own all properties once again. Owners would have the right to rent from the gov;

Happened before, why not again?

Serbia or Austria sound like a plan but you never know where the dividing line will be .

I mentioned before, my grandmother was born in Austria/Hungary and my father in Poland; Both born in the same house.

Marilyn Tassy

Crazy to say, I have a flat to die for but it is possible;

I should mention, even after the man of the house was hung, they wife and children still had to move in an elderly couple into their flat;

However, people are stupid enough to believe the news if it suits their tiny minds to do so.

I guess Arnold saying "I'll be back" in a thick Russian accent would be quite a meme.

Anyways, you're not wrong, it could happen again. I could imagine us fleeing, then returning and finding some Russian family living in our house and using all our stuff.  I begin to wonder if we shouldn't have kept a bolt hole elsewhere.

We wouldn't go to Serbia.  That's a hot bed of Russian intrigue and very corrupt..  It's one of the places where (presumably) oligarchs send their kids to avoid conscription or Putin dissenters hang out.  Same in Georgia but that's less on my radar as no border.

We'd go to Croatia possibly.  It's a pretty good place to hide out if one had money (which we don't) but Austria would be most likely the best place.  They will be flooded with EU refugees from further East.

Sadly, they did.

The war was promoted everywhere with the only dissenting voices being painted as rants from idiots. In the case of Iraq, the lies and ignored thruths were exposed far too late.

The big lie was WMD, and the big ommission was the US supported Iraq in the Iran/Iraq war.

we would have to be crazy, stupid, or both to believe the rubbish politicians spout without fact checking them.

I forgot one. In the same way Trump supporters hang on to his every word because it suits their brand of idiocy, commonly racism, other unthinking morons spout unevidenced propaganda that suits their particular bigotry.

If I can't justify and articulate my opinion, I have to assume I'm either wrong or lack sufficient knowledge of the subject in question to comment on it.

The above in mind, I don't make public claims then refuse to evidence them.

or, in reality, you can't prove your claims.

You rant against the Chinese and spout false claims, and you rant against Russia without evidence.

Why not stop ranting so you don't get called out?

I'm the big, evil thread destroying nasty man, but in fact you make borderline racist claims and expect to get away with them.

Not questioning hate speech allowed both the Iraq war and the holocaust to happen.

The Nazis blamed dirty Jews for everything, just as today's politicians (and people stupid enough to believe them) are blaming dirty Russians and dirty Chinese.

IDK if we would go anywhere if all heck broke loose.

The roads and airports would be mad.

People would run to the shops and buy whatever they could.

People panic so fast.

When that Rodney King deal was happening in Ca; We had a curfew in our city; Our area was at least 50 miles from downtown LA where the riots were happening.

I did not think much about grocery shopping and went to buy a few things a few days later; IDK why but for some reason I went shopping in a store I usually never go to. Wish I knew why I went there because it was not in my area and on the S; side of Ventura Blvd; A posh area with higher prices, a Gelsons store.

Anyways, all the bottled water was gone, no bread left, only a few bags of hot dog buns left, can goods almost all cleared out. Creepy vibes.

I suppose I went to another store near our home and must of found bread? Or perhaps I just used my bread machine. Did not panic but it was very strange to see how fast people buy out stores in fear.

Best to have a stock hold of at least a couple of weeks or longer so you do not have to run out with all those in a panic.

In 1956 a couple my in laws knew were standing arm and arm in a bread line.

Bullets started flying. Everyone dropped to the ground. The bullet passed right near the women,s arm but landed in her husbands arm. They both could of been hit by the one bullet  but thankfully not.

My husband told me just the other day that his childhood friends flat had to take in an elderly couple. First they drag out her husband and hang him then they move in an elderly couple because their flat was considered too large for one adult and 2 children. It was only 100 sq meters. How weird would that be to come out to breakfast and find some old dude having his cuppa in the kitchen and reading his newspaper

Not really.

But I was looking at the Radacanu stalker news.  Not good.  I am not so much interested in the game but the gossip and celebrity that go with it.  Bit of an extension to my interest in movies.

I couldn't name one 6 nations player but I could name some of England players for both women's and men's teams. Football that is.  The real one, not the weird stuff played in the USA and given the erroneous name of football.  I have a lot of criticism for the USA naming things like World Series baseball.  What World is that then?

OMG, Rodney King, now that's a really significant event.  People do odd things in crises. Remember back in COVID times where everyone was buying toilet paper?  WTF was that about?

That reminds me to stockpile some toilet paper.  Yes, you're right, all the roads would be blocked on the escape routes.  That really means getting the timing right.   We've got a cellar, I can pile our supplies in there.  Mrs F says we have to abandon the cat but the dog can come with us.

Mrs F says if it looks dodgy by the time our son is 18 (~2 years), we need to send him to the UK to hide out in case he'll gets conscripted.  I was a volunteer so I more or less knew what I was doing (sort of) when I joined the Royal Air Force.  But I am not sure how he would cope and I certainly don't want him in harms way. I was only ever a peace time soldier.

I've got this theory that wherever I go, there will be some huge disaster soon afterwards.  This has happened a number of times. I've asked colleagues about this and they've said the same.   It's really strange - like I went to one place, did some work, left and 3 weeks later, the massive tsunami happened.  Wipe out. Then I went somewhere else and there was a volcanic eruption.  I was even stuck in the UK due to the Icelandic volcano and all the planes were cancelled. I was also in one other place and soon after, it collapsed into civil war.  I was actually on the phone to one place and I asked them where the rebels were and they were really nervous to answer.  And like 2 days later, the rebels were in their office taking over!   And I was on the plane to the Pacific and a giant cyclone wiped out the transit airport and I was stuck in Japan!  I gave up and came back.

I am wondering if it's like a kind grim reaper thing following me about.  Maybe it's just the nature of my working life, going to odd places might lend itself to more disasters.  Or it really is spooky.

Marilyn Tassy

Mr.Fluffy, remind me to never book a flight on the same plane or route as you!!

No, things happen all the time in life, often we have no clue how close we were to danger and keep skipping along without knowing how close things were.

Of course the more often you put yourself in harms way...

Toilet paper, yes that was another thing missing  from the store during the Rodney King event.

During covid here they got low on rubber gloves, Hypo and white vinegar.

My brother and his then wife lived really close to LAX because he worked there.

Riots were going on just blocks away from them.

I called him up to ask how they were doing.

He said no problem, he and his wife both were sleeping in the front room in rocking chairs with their guns in hand!

His wife was a tough lady, ex US Army MP and later she worked for the FBI.

He bought her a hand gun in the 1980s for her birthday. Spent thousands on it too!

No Saturday night special for her. Hers  had scopes and all! My brother always loved super tough women.. He met his last wife at work; First time he saw her she was up on a planes wing with a rivet gun! I wonder if having 3 bossy older sisters made him that way?

IDK what the gun deal is but during that time our 81 year old neighbor a widow from Texas called me up and said not to worry about a thing; She said she would like my husband to come over and help her figure out what bullets went with what gun. We would be having a stand off if rioters came near our homes!

Nothing happened near us, just tons of police cars going up and down  the streets all night long.Curfew at 8pm.

Looks like out of the blue my edit button is working again? I am still confused about that.

Mr.Fluffy, remind me to never book a flight on the same plane or route as you!!No, things happen all the time in life, often we have no clue how close we were to danger and keep skipping along without knowing how close things were.Of course the more often you put yourself in harms way...Toilet paper, yes that was another thing missing from the store during the Rodney King event.During covid here they got low on rubber gloves, Hypo and white vinegar. My brother and his then wife lived really close to LAX because he worked there.Riots were going on just blocks away from them.I called him up to ask how they were doing. He said no problem, he and his wife both were sleeping in the front room in rocking chairs with their guns in hand! His wife was a tough lady, ex US Army MP and later she worked for the FBI. He bought her a hand gun in the 1980s for her birthday. Spent thousands on it too!No Saturday night special for her. Hers had scopes and all! My brother always loved super tough women.. He met his last wife at work; First time he saw her she was up on a planes wing with a rivet gun! I wonder if having 3 bossy older sisters made him that way?IDK what the gun deal is but during that time our 81 year old neighbor a widow from Texas called me up and said not to worry about a thing; She said she would like my husband to come over and help her figure out what bullets went with what gun. We would be having a stand off if rioters came near our homes!Nothing happened near us, just tons of police cars going up and down the streets all night long.Curfew at 8pm.Looks like out of the blue my edit button is working again? I am still confused about that. - @Marilyn Tassy

Yes, best to avoid being near me.  But it also seems to be others too!  We compared notes on it.  Others have said they've been caught up in riots and civil unrest and natural disasters.

I was thinking of the shopping list you gave there - gloves, hypo (presumably bleach) and vinegar.  Looks like supplies for one weird party or you were cleaning up after doing your neighbours in.

Sounds like your bro liked Rosie the Riveter types.  I can relate to that! Good for him and her!

I'm generally in favour of gun control but I wouldn't mind a few and plenty of ammo if we end up in an apocalypse.   One thing the military does very well is desensitise you to pointing at targets and pulling the trigger.   Thinking about it too much is going to end badly.   And btw, look at these pictures how inhuman the enemy is.  Yup, it was like that.  I did shock me a bit that I might actually have to fire my gun at people who were essentially the same as me and they didn't want to actually fight either.  In the end, we wouldn't have had a choice! It's us or them! It did leave me with a distaste for guns in general.  But I do understand that some people have a fascination with them but if the chips were down, it might be harder than one might think to actually shoot someone.  I do know it wasn't like some kind of shoot at the legs or something.  Those rifles would take your leg or arm off or blow a fist sized hole in someone anyway. Not very cheerful.  I really would not like guns in the house.

Glad you got your Edit button back. Lucky it was only that.  We had a major network failure at Fluffy Towers. We were still online but very badly.  But it's now 1am and I fixed it after a couple of days - I was still doing other stuff, like walking the dog, talking to visitors.  I was just trying to fix it in the night and getting moaned at by the kids. I began to wonder if I was losing my mind as I just don't know what happened. I think it was some kind of power failure in the middle of the night 2 nights ago and totally messed everything up.  I realised we're just too complicated and our kit is too old.  Have to look on Ebay for upgrades.

Yes, we had some odd things going on with the internet last month.

Thought some scammers were trying to get on.

Reset things but it happened a couple of times for a few hours then cleared up on it,s own.

My husband got so freaked out though that we cancelled our online banking feature with our HU bank; Can only do things in person now.

Trust no one in power and things will be fine!

Guns, I was both fearful yet excited to shoot off my brothers weapons in the high deserts of New Mexico.

It has been a good 30 years now but I can still hit the target. Used to be taken out in Death Valley as a child and learned to shoot; Never loaded a gun myself but was shown how to many times. I just chickened out doing it myself.

Have to respect the power in your hands. Fun firing off his AK 47. I was told by him, no worries, I could shoot if needed. poor concrete slab...

Even my super lefty Vegas friend has a weapon for personal protection; My friend, Mona, the one with the head injury had a right to carry and did carry; She went to the shooting range often to practice.

My mother used to carry a tiny 22 Derringer in her bra! She worked night shift and wanted protection while walking to her car in the dark. This was after she had been nearly assaulted years before.

My mom hardly needed a weapon, she would tear someone apart with her bare hands if needed.

She was almost assaulted before I was born in Conn.

She worked nights, dad worked days  so someone could sit with my 2 sisters.

Mom would walk home from work with a few other ladies. At a park she went on by herself a block or so to our house;

Some man came out from the bushes in the park and put a knife to moms throat and started to drag her into the park.

She hit him, bit, scratched punched so hard and would not allow him to drag her in; A couple drove by and at first thought it was a family fight but since my mom was fighting so hard they called the police.

They arrived really fast but mom had a huge black eye and the guy ran off.

The police gave my father a big talking to about mom walking by herself. She quit the night job after that.

Things have become very complex these days.  And scammers are everywhere.  The technology is certainly not foolproof so banking is clearly the main target.  It's where the money is after all.  Only thing one can do is spread it around amongst different banks and a sock under the mattress.

My sister is an absolute Luddite.  Won't pay by card for anything. Only cash.   No phone with an app on it.  No online banking.   She will however go to the cash machine and pays that way.  It's a declining situation as many businesses in the UK no longer take cash.  So that's not going to work out. It's almost impossible to live these days without the Internet.  Older people or those with disabilities have no chance.

The same sister also got attacked by a man hiding in the bushes. I think she was about 12.   This would have been 60+ years ago.  She managed to escape and the police were called if  I remember the story. But I don't know if they caught him.   Obviously we don't have freely available weapons and she wouldn't have been carrying at such a young age.  In those circumstances, using your Mom's Derringer would have been a no brainer.

It's awful when one has to think if it's necessary to be armed.  I'm always worried about our kids out and about at night in the city.  I keep trying to tell them to think about what they are doing and what might be the consequences of their actions.  Don't go to unknown people's apartments alone, meet people in the forest at night, only meet in public places where there are people, don't get drunk and out of control, blah-blah.  Like they'll pay any attention to me!   I still wonder how I managed to survive until 64 with all the dodgy stuff I got up to.

Our internet is still wonky but we can live with it temporarily. Some parts not working.   Mrs F is on the phone to Telekom right now.  We think they were messing about with it remotely and now we're trying to find out.   What a nuisance!  That's just one thing to spice up Monday AM.

And just to make it even more stupidly annoying,  now there's a fight at the MIL's graveyard over how high the mound of earth is on her grave.  The local government  wants the mound reduced. It's the gravediggers mistake, they should have removed the spare earth.  So they sent workmen this morning but the cemetery people won't let them in to take the extra earth away!  WTF?  This is not what we want to deal with.  We had other plans for today!

Glad to hear your girl got away from that freak.

My gosh I sometimes back to when my boy was 8 and 9;

He begged me to let him go alone to the little shop down the street to buy playing cards with gum.

I let him go but anything could of happened. Any child could be snatched up but he was extra, red hair hard to ignore.

He would keep the gum and resale the cards for double to his friends.

When I was a child in Ca; we lived in a place called Kagel canyon.

Cool sort of Hippie place with a small stream running down the road.

We often walked up stream in thick bushes and rocks to catch tadpoles.

No one around to watch us, a pervos dream!

Thankfully no one bothered us ever.

I think it would be fun to be young here in Budapest, so much going on and yet again, sort of boring.

I watched several videos  about the nightlife in Budapest.

Not like when we partied at the Starwood in Hollywood with live bands and dancing all night long. Now everyone is wearing regular st clothing and just standing around chatting, looks boring to me.

Just drinking one drink after the other and stumbling around from club to club.

We knew the regular band at the time at Starwood; They were really good live, might still be found on U tube; CM Lord was their name; We babysat for the singer and her husband a few times too.

Sort of a blues:soul band but man the singer could sing; Once my friend even got up with her and they did a duo; Great fun times.

Sorry about the hassle with the grave, what a weird problem, only in Hungary!!

What a day, husband is working on our water heater.

Been doing so all day long since he finally was able to pick up some replacement parts.

Fingers crossed, it is almost coming together.

Have to clean out the calcium deposits that build up every few years.

Yesterday he went out to get the parts but the store was closed.

Once again we forgot it was a Sunday!

I asked him to stop for the day and take a break,he just wants to finish the job.

I am a bit tired of taking a Turkish bath so to speak.

Good thing I watched tons of Turkish soaps that had sences  of Turkish bathhouses. Gave me some good tips on bathing out of buckets of hot water and rinsing with a pitcher. Everyone should go back to 1910 plumbing just to know how good it is now days.  We were considering hiring someone but nay, husband likes doing it himself if he can.

I don't blame hubby for wanting to do stuff himself.  I want to fix stuff myself.  To get rid of the calcium, it needs some really strong vinegar to soak the bits.  It doesn't always work very well but light stuff it'll easily get off, maybe using a wire brush after it's soaked a bit

We got a pump for our washing machine at a place in the north of Budapest. I've forgotten the name but it's got an online shop.  It was easy to fix.  A coin had gone through the pump, jammed and ripped the vanes off the impeller.  So it was spinning and not moving the water.  Nearly all washing machines fundamental bits like pumps and motors are the same for every manufacturer.  Makes you wonder what you're paying for.

We wanted to go to Lidl in Erd but Mrs F found out it was closed because of a funeral. Just our luck.  It's a "extra large" Lidl.  Whatever that means.  We'll go later in the week.

This afternoon, it was gardening now the weather has improved.  I was also repairing a bird nesting box.  It's been on my list for some years.  I had to glue it back together. I forgot to use the right glue.  D'oh.   It's badly warped so I'll have to seal the joints up with some silicon. If I'd used the right gap filling glue, it would have been better, maybe I can still use it.  The glue has to cure (I've clamped it together), then I'll spray paint it. I usually make them green so it matches the leaves/tree but probably it'll have to be black this time. I got some cheap black spray from Aldi.   The box needs a new top as well to keep out the rain - too badly warped really.   I'll have to find some wood for it.

Then it needs to go back on the tree once done.  That assume the box was not attractive to the birds because it was in bad condition. Wouldn't be cosy for the chicks.   Need to be sharpish with it as the birds are getting busy judging by the tweeting going on now.

We have 2 other bird boxes, one of which is extra popular and the other one is hardly visited.  In fact, one of them has a camera in it, and I can see on my laptop, there's already a bird in there.  There's also an infra-red light in the camera for night illumination - it's probably making it quite warm as well.

It's kind of interesting that a bird (it's a blue tit) comes back every night now and spends the night in the box.  I suppose it's like a reservation for future use. Possession is 9/10ths of the law etc - put other potential lodgers off.   It's rather interesting behaviour to see.  Like planning ahead or is it just instinct to get a cosy hole for the night?

Well, my sister is 72 now so no-one is likely to drag her into the bushes to have their evil way.  I only found out about this incident 20 years ago.  It was kept completely quiet.  I am not sure exactly what happened or the extent of it.

I agree about people "partying" here. Not the kind of parties I remember!

The grave thing is just pure madness.  Local government vs the Cemetery authorities.  It was the local government that complained about the grave having too much earth on it.  Yet, some Cemetery people blocked them and their truck.  Mrs F said she would do it.  I said, no way, it's their mistake, they can get the mayor's office involved and they can order everyone about. Don't do anything, it's not our problem.   The graveyard is actually owned by the local government I think!   Yup, only in Hungary! Bonkers!Â
