A friend went.  It was a horrifying experience.  They were stuck for almost 5 hours at the border on the Qatar side. Because due to so many people coming, they closed the border for all traffic.  Then it took them 4-5 hours to decide to let the people stuck in no-man's land go through BUT on foot and leaving their cars there.  When my friend returned a few days later to go back, it was normal because they were not allowing any non qatari cars without permit through any more.

So, before you go, check.........I know what the announcement says about cars, the reality is different.
