Expand your social circle in Oman

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Moving to Oman means leaving one's family and friends behind. Creating a circle of friends or joining an existing one should therefore be paramount in order to fight loneliness in your host country.

But how can one develop a social network in Oman? Where and how to meet people there?

How easy is it to meet locals? What about cultural specificities?

Share your advice and experience!

Many thanks in advance,

Priscilla

This issue had been brought up before,

First and foremost u find the best friends at work

Second best friends are available thru kins,

Friends generate friends always so one has to select and reconsidder all the time,

One needs 2 or 3 friends who are best of the best , it is that simple.

Most importantly : Dont isolate urself within 4 walls or exaggurate in longing for friendship.

God bless u.

Hi,

I feel you can begun making some friends at your work and people who live next to your home/ flat. Slowly try to search for leads for community clubs which are generally present for all country specific expats. Once you get in touch with a community club you will get lots of friends to meet. Also there are groups on Facebook which can be searched and joined to make new friends.

Hope that helps.

Yes it is huge challenge to stay away from family and childhood friends but anyhow its life we have to devote something to earn for better future.

of course loneliness sometimes kill a lot then i just start socializing uploading social app but most of the apps are only for prostitution and relevant to same field.

I think the best thing and to meet good people get together is a good idea where you can talk with a real person but all people should be registered and accept the appropriate terms and condition so no one will suffer.

Remembering the time when I was packing my bag to come here. I never felt any kind of loneliness here. One should be able to adopt a habit of making good friends anywhere they are. I first attended concerts here and went to cafes where I met a lot of cool people too. I attended literary and cultural shows too. I then at my work started making nice friends. I see a lot of people having ego issues and this is only the reason that they feel lonely coming to a new country. I also joined social clubs here who would always update me with new activities happening here. I posted on Facebook group that I need few cool friends to hang out here in Oman and some people responded me and I went out with them and had a lot of fun. So, that's a little cute story of my life when I came here. Locals are very cooperative and Oman is best when it comes to hospitality towards the guests. I met Omanis who traveled with me to different places and introduced me towards the history of Oman. I mostly avoid social networking and chats as I feel meeting new people can be fun and may be they would have same interests as I have.

Bests,
Noor.

My Rules my way

Hi Priscilla.

Slowly slowly i met friends and then friends of friends then more friends,

And now presently believe me i have lots of friends. All of them for me like a family. Every week we are arranging a friends Bonding’s, group parties etc. believe me nowadays I’m so happy with them.

Hi OlenaMH,

Nice of you to extend a warm invitation to Priscilla ... but did you notice that red circle with a 'spanner' icon on Priscilla's profile picture ?
