Censorship?

alan279

I was about to post a video about my neighborhood triking experience today. But the video is provided by a third party that could be construed as advertising on this forum, and posibly blocked.

Is this censorship?

Hello,

You can post a link to the video. It is not considered commercial and advertising. The link being new to the website, it might be put under review automatically by the website till a moderator whiltelist it.

Only commercial links to external websites such as paid immigration services, moving, paid consultation are removed.

Links that redirect our members to harmful or non verified websites as well.

Hope this helps

If it's advertising for yourself, or something you have any sort of gain from, it will probably be removed.

If the goal is an informative post, it will not.

Advertising is allowed in the classified sections.

@Fred

Does expat.com explicitly state censor rules? Do you have a link?

It isn't censorship, it's to keep adverts separated from information.

Okay, are you one of the separators?

This is less than productive.

It's simple

Advertising in classifieds

The grey area happens when you post about a given activity, but the odd bit of advertising (that you have no gain from) is in links.

No sovereign citizen style crap, and no exceptions.

The forum rules are hit and miss sometimes in my opinion. I think it’s difficult for whoever are “The Moderators” to make decisions. They seem to ignore things that are very black and white in the forum rules, but over react to seemingly innocuous things. It probably would be better if the moderators were more balanced in generational and international backgrounds. For example, six moderators 2 over age 60, 2 aged 45-59, and 2 under 45. Also, 2 from Europe, 2 from the Americas and 2 from other areas. I don’t know exactly what the correct mix is, but it seems some of their decisions don’t jive with the majority of Expats living in Brazil who participate in this forum. Again, I’ll reiterate that it’s not a simple task but the forum rules (layed out by James) way back in gringoes.com days are worth a read now and again.

Hello,

We, moderators (myself and my colleague, Cheryl) only remove personal contact details or advertising. We do not participate in any threads more than that. We do not share our opinion and do not censor members.

The Brazil forum code of Conduct is well respected overall. I've been working for Expat.com for more than 10 years now and I must say that the Brazil forum is not a forum where you will find moderators intervention that often because the Brazil forum members have well maintained their forum (politeness, sharing infos, support, diplomacy).

You have 1 dedicated Brazil forum advisor abthree (since our dear James and TexanBrazil passed away). Abthree provides as much info as he can based on the knowledge he has acquired.

I provided an explanation on links, as those mentioned in the first post. Now if the OP wants to share the link, he is most welcome to do so and we'll have a look.
