little information of Algiers information

Written byhlsotaon 23 May 2012

Hi All,

I want to share a little information about Algeria especially Algiers city for those foreigner want to come to this nice country. I hope my information useful.

I am an Expat from Indonesia in Algiers, Algeria is a religious country. eventhought, you still can see many pretty algerian woman walking on street without scarf. Most of them are nice and usually if you are from Asia they will greet you with "Ni Ha" which i know recently they want to say hello.

Arabic and French widely spoken here, only fews speak english. 1 thing you should aware if you want to stay longer, it is rarely they rent their apartment in months. they usually ask you to pay the rent 1 year in advance. solution for this :
1. find some other expatriate to share apartment with you
2. rent cheap hotel while looking for suitable apartment

A car is a must for foreigner that doesn't speak arabic or english. they have public transport such as TREM or subway but only in the city centre area. Buses are many but the route written in french and arabic.

For Visa, I guess they don't have standard procedure but yes it is hard to extend Visa here. for some cases they only allow to extend once but other cases they can let you extend several time.

I am just 2 months in Algeria, if anything i can share i will let you know. anyone want to go to alger please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks and cheers

Hi, I am travelling to Algiers and Bordj Bou in December and would like to know what the trains are like from Algiers to Bordj Bou Arredij. I only speak English and a little French, sounds like I might have difficulty communicating with people.

Really thank you for this information. I also really want to live in Algeria and study arabic. In my case, the biggest problem is about the Visa. So if you have any good advice, please share with me.
