Djibouti , a small country and a tiny nation of northeast Africa. sharing its border with Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritea and linking with Yemen through gulf of Aden and Red sea. People speak French, Arabic, Somali and Afar, mostly are muslim by religion. English is growing now because of large influx of somali expats coming back from Canada. There is a good propotionality of expats living in Djibouti. Strategic location on gulf of Aden, enjoying stability in region and Port handling activities have marked this land with growing opportunities. French, Americans and Japanese have established their military bases and Africom has its largest operational base in Africa. Country has a state of art facilities at Port and a free zone. Economically, Djibouti is one of the least developed and highly dependent on foreign aid. Major exports are salt, fish, live animal, raw hides and skins and handicrafts. Living in Djibouti does not come witthout its challenges similar like anywhere in Horn of Africa. Frequent water and power cuts, inflation, unemployment, malnutrition and refugees problems are norms here. Doing business rank is low because of curruption and inconsistant commercial policies. All food and major consumer goods come through imports. But country is a gatway of horn of Africa, relatively stable than its neighbours, more open market and a hub of offshore and onshore banking and finance.
Heron and Airport area are good options for expats residence in Djibouti City. Rents and food prices are high. Magala and Rue de Ethiopie are commercial bustling streets where one can find amazing nightlife and better dinning options. Major tourist attractions are Lake Assal, Dai and El Mousha island. Djibouti currency is Djiboutian Franc which is like 1USD = 177.7 DJF. For most of the nationalities Djiboutian visa is provided on arrival at Airport with a fees of 60 USD.
