If you are planning to move to Aswan, finding accommodation will be one of your main priorities. Find out how to proceed in this article.

Known as the 'Dam City', Aswan has been attracting many expatriates over the years, especially due to its proximity with the Nile River which is crossed every day by several cruise ships. Being one of the major Egyptian cities, it provides not only opportunities to expatriates but also a range of accommodation.

Indeed, many real estate projects have been cropping up since some time in the area. Collective housing units have also been built for the local population. So if you are planning to move there, you shall not have much trouble in finding a suitable housing unit.

Neighborhoods

Aswan's inhabitants are deeply attached to their communities. Hence, they are likely to group themselves in most neighborhoods. This is particularly how different zones are defined. Note that residential areas, as well as real estate projects, are currently cropping up across the city since a few years.

Old neighborhoods, as well as the market neighborhood, are found in the city-center. The residential extensions, for their part, are found Northwest to the city-center. Aswan's popular neighborhood, for its part, is located at the East of the railway track, stretching until the High Dam road.

The city also hosts a few luxurious neighborhoods comprising collective housing units and office buildings.

Rent prices

There is no specific type of housing in Aswan, unlike in other major Egyptian cities. Moreover, the building's age is taken into account so as to determine the rent price. Rent prices in Aswan are quite similar to those offered in Hurghada. Thus, you will need an average of 1,500 to 2,500 Egyptian pounds per month for accommodation in the city, regardless of the neighborhood.

Find accommodation

As Aswan is a tourist city above all, most of the housing ads you are likely to find online are intended for tourists, that is for short stays. Moreover, most tourists prefer to stay in hotels as short-term rentals are not so widespread either in the area.

Therefore, consider checking out classified ads in local newspapers, such as the Daily News. You may also rely on word of mouth if you have friends and contacts on the spot. In case you prefer to look for accommodation on your own, feel free to seek the help of someone who knows Arabic, preferably a contact.

When inquiring with building caretakers, make sure to provide your contact details so that they can notify you regarding any vacant housing unit.
