Bangalore, officially known as ‘Bengaluru’, is one of the most progressive cities of India. Located on a plateau, the city is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. With a population of over 10 million, the city is the third most populous city and fifth-most populous urban agglomeration in India. Good quality of life, pleasant weather and ample career opportunities lead both people living in other parts of India and those from further afield to find a job in Bangalore.

Bangalore's economy

Bangalore boasts of having one of the fastest-growing economies of India and has been ranked as the second fastest-growing metropolis in India. According to one of the recent estimates, the GDP of Bangalore's metropolitan area was around US$110 billion in 2019.

Bangalore is also a hub for scores of information technology companies, such as Infosys, Wipro and IBM. Due to its remarkable growth and developments in the IT sector, the region has been given the title of India's Silicon Valley. The city is regarded as a startup hub and is the home of numerous companies in the biotech sector in particular. Bangalore has also attracted several research and development centres for many firms such as Airbus, Bosch, GE, Google, Mercedes-Benz, Philips and Toyota.

The city has headquarters of several big public sector corporations like Bharat Electronics, Hindustan Aerospace and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute.

The labour market in Bangalore

The ever-growing and diverse economy of Bangalore has good job opportunities for those hoping to work in Bangalore. Local residents often prefer to seek employment within the public sector and for a variety of governmental organisations.

Bangalore is also marked by the presence of several renowned educational institutions and specialised colleges that also present employment opportunities, followed by information and communication technology and biotechnology.

Devanahalli Business Park (in North Bangalore) also has a range of opportunities for business professionals, engineering and aeronautic specialists and also qualified teachers.

How to find a job in Bangalore

You can start your job search by browsing different general and specialised career websites or try out the professional social networks that connect job seekers to potential employers. Recruitment agencies can help to find a job that best matches with your profile. If you have friends or contacts on the spot, word-of-mouth may also help. Sending spontaneous applications to larger companies may also improve your chances.
