Internship in the Maldives

The smallest country in Asia and one of the worlds most famous vacation destinations, the Maldives offer the perfect holiday setting. But there is more to the islands than just snorkeling and tanning. With the strongly developed tourism and services sector, the Maldives may just be the perfect destination to further your studies in hospitality and other related fields. Conditions

An internship typically involves a short-term work contract in the field related to your university major. In fact, most universities have internships as obligatory parts of their education system, necessary for getting a degree. An internship can last from a few weeks to up to six months ' in the Maldives, most internships are either three or six months long.

Find an internship

As a popular tourist destination, the Maldives offer great opportunities to support your studies in the hospitality and services sector with practical experience. Thanks to a high concentration of five-star resorts, hotels, and restaurants, there is no shortage of internship opportunities both in the capital city of Male and the surrounding islands.

Most expats interning in the Maldives work in reception, hotel management, F&B, international cuisine, PR, health and beauty, animation and entertainment, sports and wellness, HR, marketing and sales, and others.

Looking for an internship in the country should not be too complicated. The most straightforward way to find a position is to get in touch with your preferred resort, restaurant or company directly and inquire about internship opportunities ' do not forget to include your cover letter and references.

Alternatively, you can seek help in finding an internship from placement companies ' note that in this case, you would need to pay a fee for the agency's services. When doing your internship through an agency, make sure to specify what position you are looking for, the number of hours you will be available to work daily and your preferred duration of stay in the Maldives.

You can also look through websites, forums and social media posts with job and internship listings in the Maldives. Joining expat forums or professional Linkedin groups can also be beneficial throughout your search.

Procedures

Once you have secured an internship, your employer will need to apply for the needed papers for your visa. This includes the Employment Approval, which you will then use to apply for a work visa in the Maldives. Make sure to check with your potential employer in advance about the needed paperwork as well as the time required for its preparation.
