You just settled down in the city and do not know anybody yet. What is the best place where to meet people and make new friends? What is the easiest way to develop your social circle in Prague? You should definitely start networking through flatmates and colleagues at work. Ask them if they can do you a favour and introduce you to some of their friends.
Socialising in Prague
When settling down in Prague, you will probably start with searching for a job and accommodation. These two places should also be the first place where to meet people. Reach out to friends of friends. Do not be shy and ask your flatmates, if they can introduce you to some of their friends, join them for Saturday party. This is the easiest way how to meet people in a new city.
Do your colleagues usually go for an after-work drink? Ask if you can join them! Even if you do not drink beer, you can always order something else. When making plans for the upcoming weekend, share your ideas in the office. Is there any interesting exhibition, concert, or cultural event? Ask in the office if somebody wants to join. One of your coworkers has maybe no plans and would be happy to join in.
Sports activities are another excellent way to meet new people. Go to the gym, join group classes, do yoga, or indoor climbing. All these places are a great opportunity for making contacts. Do not be shy, start the conversation, and speak to people.
Do you take your new life experience seriously and plan to settle down in Prague? Then, you should learn the language! Take Czech language classes for beginners. Applications and social media in Prague
Fortunately, there are many applications which help people to meet up and expand their social circle in a new city. Everybody probably knows Tinder, or Badoo, which are more like dating applications. This is also an interesting way to people in the city, but you can also try others which are not considered as dating websites.
Have you ever tried to use Meetup or Couchsurfing? Couchsurfing is not only an app where to get free accommodation. One of its functions, called Hang out, helps to put people together and meet new ones.
Whenever you are free, just turn it up, share your plans, and see whether someone wants to join. There is also the possibility to create an event. You will probably meet many foreigners who are just travelling around, but it is also used by local people who want to improve their knowledge of foreign languages.
Facebook has several groups and events, which can help too. For example, a group called Prague expats could be a good start.
Weekly meetups in Prague
Facebook and Couchsurfing are handy tools which can help you to stay informed about the events in the city. There are several weekly or bi-weekly meetups, which can help in networking. For expats, it is the perfect place to make new friends, for locals to meet foreigners and practise their English or other languages.
There is a weekly meet-up organised by Couchsurfing which takes place every Thursday at Simply u Kravaty. It is recommended to register, but not mandatory. Most of the people speak English, but it is open for everybody - all nationalities and languages are welcome. Every second Friday, there is an English Prague Meeting which takes place at Bar/ák.
