You can find train and bus networks connecting almost all living places from the smallest to the biggest in Lithuania. Bigger city like Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai, Panevezys, Utena, Marijampole, Alytus have their own bus networks.
The best "indoor" networks can be found in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. Public transportation isn't cheap in Lithuania. It is however highly recommended to get a car for better connections in the country.
Intercity buses in Lithuania
Almost every place has a bus station in Lithuania. From there go many buses to different places. From the smallest towns, you can have one or two departures per day, and conversely one or two arrivals per day. To travel from Vilnius to Klaipeda, Kaunas, Siauliai, Panevezys, Utena, Alytus, Marijampole or from these cities to Vilnius, there are many departures per day, the journey is really fast.
If you are a student, you can benefit from 50 to 80% discount on your ticket fare upon presentation of your student card.
Intercity trains in Lithuania
Trains tend to run less frequently than buses in Lithuania. Note that in spite of a good network, not all towns and cities have train stations.
