Are you an expat, looking forward to relocating to Romania for work? You may think it is such a difficult task to pack up and move all your possessions, but there are moving companies, which make your work a lot easier. Read this helpful article to find more.

When relocating abroad, you should focus more on your new profession and the new living environment, rather than worry about how you would move all your things from home. As packing items, especially the fragile ones, is a true art, then you should start looking for removals companies. And here is what you need to check on the "to do"list.

Take these steps into account:

  • Plan a long way ahead;
  • Make sure about the origin address, and where the removers will pack and load all your belongings;
  • Pay attention to the address in Romania, where the removers will bring all the belongings;
  • Weight and get to know the volume of your things;
  • Choose an accredited company, after proper research or recommendations;
  • Make insurance, as it will be vital for your goods;
  • Establish the types of transportation (by air, truck, train, ship);
  • Get to know the prices and all the costs.

How to choose a moving company in Romania?

Expats relocation abroad is not just about moving all the goods you have to a foreign address, but it actually refers to moving the entire life with you. Therefore, expats coming to Romania will need to find a removal company that is both well organized and professional.

Here are some pointers to help you find your own removal company:

Plan ahead

Start your research with plenty of time ahead. Once you start asking for quotes, then establish an estimated date. A good, professional company will send an assessor to your home, to calculate how much it needs to pack.

Shop around

For your peace of mind, is always good to search for a company that is part of a trustful association. Get in touch with it, find out everything about their services and make sure they are professional, friendly, and efficient.

Look for recommendations

The best way to choose the perfect removal company is by asking people around you and looking for some reviews. Maybe you have friends who have done this yet. The Internet is also a great source for honest reviews. You will be trusting all your precious things to the removal company, so confidence is a priority.

Insurance - a must!

If there is a good removal company, it should definitely include insurance in their services. This insurance will cover all the losses and damage during transit of this type. It's also a good and wise idea to contact your trustful home contents insurer, to find out more about the policy you will sign. Is it covering all your content or not?

Never pack it yourself

Always consider a removal company that has the packing service included. This service should not be that expensive and will save all the time, energy and stress that you would normally accumulate while packing all that stuff. Moreover, removal companies are professional packers, and they can squeeze far more into a box than anybody else.

Send the removal company a briefing list

Once you have selected the removal company, it would be very helpful for them to have a briefing sheet that lists all you will send through them:

  • Items that are fragile and need good packing;
  • Items that are very heavy, such as couches or pianos;
  • Items that you are going to move by yourself;
  • Carpets and curtains;
  • A floor plan from the new home, so they will know where to place your big items, such as furniture.

 Important:

Generally, the carriers handle custom paperwork for you (customs clearance, etc.) For more security, opt for a carrier affiliated with the FIDI (International Federation of International Movers).

 Good to know:

Contact the Romanian Embassy or Consulate for more information about relocation in the country, customs, prohibited items, etc.
