Timisoara has always been a pro-western Europe city and a trendsetter for the rest of Romania’s counties. With a large story, especially in the industry field, Timisoara is a very important economic hub for the country. When it comes to expats, the city is very attractive, mainly because it is in constant development, acquiring easy and quick the trends of Central Europe. For those who are looking for the dream job, the doors are open. But first of all, it is important to have a look at the local economy and the possible jobs.

Timisoara's economy

Timisoara is the strongest economic centre in the West of Romania. The turnover of the business has an increasing average of 10,62 per cent. Moreover, according to the World Bank, the city on the Bega river has the most significant economic growth in the European Union. 

Timisoara is also the most dynamic and “friendly” city for developing new businesses, said the European Business Assembly from Oxford, Great Britain. This statement is true due to the important European investments. Therefore, Timisoara is the pole of growth in Romania.

No wonder that Timisoara is also a flourishing technology hub since it is one of the most important academic centres in Romania, rich in leading technical universities and colleges. There is already a tradition in the IT field, as well as in automotive, ICT, machine building, agro-food, wood processing, mining, and chemical. 

Promising fields of work in Timisoara

The opportunities of Timisoara have attracted lots of companies from engineering and technical jobs. Also, many companies from the automotive industry, such as Continental, Delphi Packard, Mahle, Dura came into Timis county due to its economic prosperity. 

The IT area is also fulminating in Timisoara, with over 500 companies in this field and almost 9 thousand employees. Actually, the ICT market in Timisoara is the second largest one, after Bucharest. According to statistics, Timisoara is a great centre for possible candidates in the IT sector. 

There are also available vacancies in the fields of tourism and hospitality, thanks to the strong presence of hotels and tourist attractions. Timisoara has been developing as a city, as well as the look of the most important parts of the town, which took to a great number of tourists to visit the West city. Tourism, indeed, is very important due to the presence of the national parks, Retezat and Apuseni and the touristic offers that these landscapes are offering. 

On the other hand, there is another growing in popularity sector in Timisoara, meaning the practice of subcontracting business operations. Business Process Outsourcing offers promising employment opportunities. 

Jobs for expats in Timisoara

The expats' community will surely find a dream job in Timisoara, as there has been considerable foreign investment in the last few years. Manufacturing in Timisoara is one of the most popular economy fields, including tires, mobile telephones, food, and electronics. 

Expats in Timisoara can look for the dream job by going directly to the place they want to be or just searching on the internet. You can look for several general and specialised job websites, as well as professional social networks. Due to the great number of foreign companies, the perfect candidate for a job in Timisoara should know international languages. Some knowledge of Romanian would be an advantage. 

If there are expats having trouble with finding the dream job, Timisoara has lots of headhunting agencies to help them look for the best position. 

Wages in Timisoara

Compared to Bucharest and Cluj, Timisoara occupies the third place when it comes to the level of salaries. The average wage in Timisoara is around 600 euros. 

The unemployment rate is still low, around 0,70 per cent, one of the lowest in the country.
