Not in Barcelona! Sunday is the best day to visit the museums run by the city, as they are all free to enter in the afternoon (3pm ' 8pm). It means it's free to go to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Museu d'Història de Barcelona Museums or Museu Picasso. Free culture'Šwhat's not to love about that!
Ramble In Las Rambias
Las Ramblas is a mile long boulevard in the heart of the city. It's a great place to go for a walk to get a real flavour of Barcelona. It addition to the shops and restaurants, there are historical landmarks and tourist attractions, such as the Wax Museum, Museu de l' Erotica and Boqueria Market. You'll also find street performers and artists. Think Leicester Square with a Catalonian twist!
Take a Cultural Trip
The El Born Centre Cultural is a journey into Barcelona's past, the 18th century to be precise! The historic building used to be Europe's largest market. It's now an exhibition centre that shows what it was like to live in the city at the time of the 1714 siege (a momentous moment in Catalonian history). There is free entry to the exhibitions on Sundays and public holidays.
Go Gothic
A stroll through the Barri Gòtic will take you on one of the most architecturally striking walks in Europe. The 'Gothic Quarter' is a glorious labyrinth of streets and alleys steeped with gothic splendour. The Plaça Reial (Royal Square) is a beautiful place to search out, as is Catedral de Barcelona - a gothic monolith that is as remarkable inside as out. It is free to enter in the morning and also later in the afternoon.
Free Art
If you love art then Barcelona is a fantastic place to visit as you'll find great art wherever you go. Whether it's the public art of Joan Miró or the architectural treats of Antoni Gaudí, found throughout the city. Miró's enormous Woman and Bird sculpture is one to search out in particular, as are Gaudí's La Sagrada Família and Passeig de Gràcia ' these do have entry fees, but it doesn't cost a thing to go look at them, and their architectural prowess will blow your mind!
