Making phone calls in Colombia by Maximilien

Hi, When settling in Colombia, one of the priorities is to be able to make phone calls. How to proceed to get a landline installed in Colombia? What are the mobile operators? What is your average monthly budget? Thank you in advance ...

Does your Tigo service work the same, with no additional charges or fees if you are in the US? Canada? Spain? UK?Never tried but I doubt it. Read More

I'm kind of lost on that post. I have Tigo for 75.000/mo that allows me unlimited calls to/from the US (and Mexico and Canada I think) as well as unlimited data. Contract required. Read More

Vaccines required in Colombia by Diksha

Hello everybody, When living or moving abroad, and in particular in Colombia, vaccination against certain diseases is often required to enter the country or to avoid risks. We would like to ask you a few questions to help future expats ...

gsusser

Diksha, generally speaking, no vaccines are required to enter Colombia. The covid vaccine is not required either. It only started to become available this week. Some parts may require a malaria vaccination though. Read More

To Pay Tax in Colombia or Not by PhilCo58

If we are good law abiding Expats, we will do our legal bit to help Colombia, but that doesn't mean we are going to empty our pockets for them. When you decide to live in Colombia, one of your obligations is to visit DIAN and register your ...

Good advice. I lucked out with recommendations from acquaintances. Helpful discussions with 2 Spanish-speaking independent Medellin accountants with no initial charge. Compare to Paula Cruz who wants 250 mil to say hello, in English. Thanks guys. Read More

Bringing this back to life, hopefully. I've been looking for the last few weeks unsuccessfully for a tax accountant and came across this discussion. I'm hoping for a recommendation to pay 2019 and last year. Someone mentioned Paula Cruz. I ... Read More

Obtaining Retirement visa by gsusser

I'm having a difficult time finding what documents are required and the fees to obtain an M-11. Perhaps I'm blind. I will go to a consulate in the US to do this. Unfortunately, all I get is a recording when I call the consulate and no info. ...

Thanks for the responses. Siol, a special thanks for that list. Sailcompania, for various reasons, I can't get into specifics about banking on a forum, sorry. But thanks for the info. I decided to spend a little extra and hire a service. It ... Read More

Lifestyle on limited budget by gsusser

Hi, long time since I posted and a lot has happened. I'm an American looking to retire in Medellin or possibly Cali, though I've never been to the latter. I only mention Cali as I believe the cost of living is less and I like warm weather. ...

Ghagen, thanks for the helpful info. The thought crossed my mind about the exchange rate. An unfavorable change could have disastrous consequences. However, I think that's a risk one has to be willing to take when moving abroad or to a third ... Read More

That link was a complicated explanation of the methodology used to calculate the rate! However, bottom line, the bank's rate was near the posted rate. I've seen the line in banks and don't relish having to deal with it. But I'm ... Read More

sailcomania, are there any drawbacks to having a Colombia bank account vs. US? Are you able to make withdrawals at no charge and/or use their ATM at no charge or at a low fee? If so, and I know every bank is different, do you get close to the ... Read More

One of the requirements is confusing. They ask for a copy of a passport AND green card (yes, they use that term) AND visa. I hope they don't give me a hard time when I only submit a copy of my US passport. They also don't ask for proof of ... Read More
