I am a male.
I am employed. I am Mech Engineer.
I joined expat.com on 12 October 2009.
Just starting in my new job here. Let's see how it goes...
It's home
The usual gripes....
Returned to Libya to get the operations re-started in post-war Libya.
Wait and see mode....
It is home
Back in the oilfied services industry after a 7 year break. My first (and only) rotational assignment, commuting from Pakistan on a 4x4 schedule.
Back to basics, simple cheap living.
Traffic and weather........ too hot this time, other extreme from Canada!
Moved back to Pakistan to pursue some business opportunities.
Back home after a 5 year break, good to be close to parents, family and friends.
Work environment still sucked!
Moved to Canada after acquiring immigration visa. Decided to give the oil sector a rest and move on to other things.
Good place to raise a family. Nice cultural mix.
Weather....... too cold! On our arrival in Canada for the first time, we were greeted with a very welcoming temperature of -49C
Transferred home, I had escaped home country assignment for long enough!!!
A chance to be back home with family and friends
Work environment sucked
Transferred to Scotland, this time to Aberdeen. A marked contrast from Norway both in Work and after hours environments.
Beautiful city, nicely landscaped with gardens and parks all over. Very dedicated professional work force, it was a joy to work with the scots.
Offshore rigs were mostly not upto the standards I saw in Norway. A lot of them were pretty poor in terms of living standards.
Transferred here for first assignment out of training school. Thrilled at the opportunity of working in locations you normally see on Discovery channel and wonder how it would be like to be there. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!!!
Work, offshore life quality, helicopter rides for commute to/from oil platforms. Landscape, countryside, nightlife
Cost of living.........horrendous!
First trip to Scotland to attend the training school for the oilfield services company I joined in 1991. Start of my oilfield career!
Not much
Damp depressing weather
Studying towards my Engineering Degree
I had a great time in USA both during school years in Oklahoma and later while working in California. The concept of Customer Service is perfected in USA. No other place in the world comes even close.
can't think of any really.
Born in Pakistan, a military brat, graduated high school from a boarding schools run by the navy (anyone seen the movie TAPS??)
It's home, what's not to like!!
