I am expatriate American who was born in Tokyo after the end of the war and grew up in Japan. Growing up expatriate and having two languages, and cultures to love has been a large part of my identity and perspective on the world. I have to think about all people of the world as being basically the same, I cannot tolerate jingoistic rhetoric of any kind, whenever I see it. I finally wrote a novel about the expatriate experience and it is now available on Amazon. Expatriate Heart was published in September of 2009. Now, I have lived in the United States long enough to make the country of my citizenship to have a home in my heart too. I often visit my son who works in Japan and try to spend a little time with each of my Japanese freinds on each of my visits. My heart still has a home in Japan and I will most likely retire in Japan and I look forward to enjoy spending more time with the good freinds of my youth in Japan then. I think my novel will resoanate with many expats who love two or more countries and feel enlarged by the gift of having had their expatriate experience.
