Transportation to Salinas from Guayaquil
FYI ~ There is one company that runs shuttles between GYE (Guayaquil) and Salinas called "Ruta del Sol". They have offices in both locations. In GYE they are behind the Ramada Hotel in GYE and in Salinas next to Bariloche Café on the Malecón. ... Read More

Going back to America, Too big of a cultural shock by Yanapana
Hello Expats, I wonder if you know of anyone who has come to live in Ecuador and has decided to return to the States because it was too difficult to adjust to the change. We are going through that right now. It seems like everyone living in Ecuador ...

Sorry to hear you are considering a return to US. I am impressed, however, that you have the courage to acknowledge it and know that it may not be for you. It's OK ~ Ecuador is not for everyone. In the 3+ years I've been here, I have met a couple ... Read More

moving dogs and cars by meshellmybell
Hi! I would really appreciate any insight on bringing my dog and my car to Ecuador. Thanks!

A friend of mine just arrived here in Ecuador with her dog.... she flew LAN airlines, and they only charged her $200 for her dog. She claims the airline was fantastic with her dog; and they only allow 4 pets per flight, so reserve early enough. ... Read More

Think of moving! by Sandy Scott
Tile says it. What is it like living in the town of Salines?

I have been living in Salinas for over 2 years now. The weather is really warm Dec-April and quite comfortable year-round. Actually, I find it a little chilly right now, we are experiencing a little "cold spell" and everyone has their sweatshirts ... Read More

Questions, I have questions. by Gendotte
Can anyone give me an idea of what air fares are? Boats? Is it possible to drive from the States to Ecuador without getting yourself killed-robbed-raped-etc? Is Rosetta Stone a good language teacher? My Spanish is from grade school via an ...

LAN airlines is my favorite ~ hands down (opinion, of course!!). Currently they have deals going on from Miami-Guayaquil $399 r/t plus tax or New York-Guayaquil $599 r/t plus tax (of course, check the terms and conditions!!) Best way to learn ... Read More

Hi Leo! The 12-IX visa is a type of non-immigrant visa, valid for only 6 months. You can get it in your home country, or apply for it here. However, since you say there is no Ecuadorian Consulate in Greece, you would have to apply for it here. ... Read More

moving dogs and cars by meshellmybell
Hi! I would really appreciate any insight on bringing my dog and my car to Ecuador. Thanks!

For bringing dogs on the flight in the cabin, check with Avianca, the Colombian airline. I had a client who did this back in February. He had to do a lot of convincing but at the end his [very small] dog was considered a "service" dog and they ... Read More

Interested in Ecuador-- seriously! by saberEcuador
Hi, I'm new to the forum. After years of running on the wheel just to keep up, I started liquidating and realized that I could retire now, maybe not in luxury, but at least in comfort, if I moved to someplace cheaper than the US. Ecuador fits my ...

Hi!! Glad to see that you are planning a move to Ecuador ~ I've been here over 3 years and I love it, so glad I made the move. I would suggest you take an exploratory trip first to see "where" you'd like to live, then go home to finalize whatever ... Read More

Crime and Internet ? by Sephius
Hi, I've 2 different things about Ecuador, one saying that is one of the South American countries with less crime and others saying violent crime is rising a lot in Ecuador, can anyone tell me which one is true? Specially in Salinas.. Other thing ...

I agree with the Bartenderin Quito. Crime is always something to be aware of, and take precautions - no matter where you are. Salinas is pretty "tranquilo" but we have had our incidents, just like anywhere else. As a single female, I can say ... Read More

Ecuador Coast Line by RRC
Is the Ecuador coast line a good area to settle down in, as a retirement living condition, cost wise versus Cuenca and inland? Single male from Southern CA who wants to relax and enjoy a more subtle lifestyle, soon.

Hi RRC, Check out Salinas. We have a growing Ex-pat community here and we are more "developed" than some of our neighboring coastal towns. Best advice would be to come down for a couple of weeks to explore all the great coast options that Ecuador ... Read More
