Originally from Nelson, New Zealand, I lived in Australia, for 15 years. I've spent the last 10 years in South East Asia; Cambodia and Vietnam. And in August 2019 I will move to Peru.
I am a female.
I am job seeker. I am a teacher.
I joined expat.com on 28 January 2009.
Teaching English and selling health insurance
I came to Phnom Penh as a Vida Volunteer in January 2009. I left early in 2010 to return to a role in Brisbane where I resigned 6 months later having saved enough money to come back to Phnom Penh and set up a social enterprise business/training school. The western hairdressing salon is now 5 months old and has a steady stream of customers who's payment for hair and beauty services supports the training school soon to be opened. Disadvantaged Khmers will be trained for free in western type hairdressing skills and techniques.
Life is generally simple and just how life used to be in the rest of the world 30 or 40 years ago.
Money hungry expats, people obsessed with 4 wheel drives and the latest marketing ploys of Apple ie ipods, ipads etc same as anywhere else in the world.
