Too small, secluded ...
I worked with a FMCG company to help set up a new department.
Uganda is in the poorer region of Africa - it is underdeveloped way back then, and I think it still is, as it's quite slow to progress. BUT, that is actually what's great to take a venture over there. It means there are more opportunities and not a lot of competition. The greatest thing I have experienced living there, even if it was only on a short term basis, is that the lifestyle is very simple, in fact very basic. There is also plenty of opportunity to do volunteer works on your free time, so it's just not about work, there's a chance to grow spiritually. It's easy to save money, because when you look around and see the poverty, you wouldn't end up spending on things you initially thought were essential, but clearly not. I also liked that there are a lot of other expatriates, mainly NGO's, and international companies setting up offices over there - so is also very diverse. Nightlife is good, lots of cool bars and casinos.
Uganda is a landlocked country, so that makes it more expensive to import. Climate is not agriculturally friendly, so it's very hard to avail fresh fruits and vegetables - there are in the supermarkets, just not fresh and likely to be expensive.
I worked as a Property Manager for 2 commercial buildings at the Sherman Oaks area.
I loved California for its weather. The availability of real fresh fruits and veggies, and great variety of food. Los Angeles is a melting pot, so people are mostly very open minded and knowledgeable about other cultures, which makes adapting easier.
Worked for EMAAR - one of the most successful Real Estate Developers in the world.
The time I was in Dubai, it was developed and modern but still very much evolving. Before the global recession, the salaries were so much higher. Dubai, unlike the other cities in the GCC region is very open, modern and very culturally diverse.
The lifestyle is somewhat superficial. Most people tend to become materialistic after living in this city, which means, just because of the general mindset of everyone, it may be harder to save money.
