My husband and I are from the U.S. We moved to the Lake Chapala area of Mexico in 2017, after having lived nearly 7 years in Cuenca,Ecuador. We enjoy living abroad and traveling around the world.
I joined expat.com on 29 July 2015.
We were involved in starting an English-speaking Christian church in Cuenca. Also, we like to write about our experiences in our blog: www.grimmsecuadortraveltales.blogspot.com.
Cuenca is a wonderful place to live. It reminds me of what living in the States used to be like (in the 1950's) -- and the weather is exactly like where I grew up (at the beach in Southern California). Because the cost of living is so low (for us expats), we can travel and live more extravagantly than in the States (all of our income in the States went to paying expenses -- but in Cuenca, we have money left over to have fun!).
Getting used to the culture and learning the language are drawbacks. Luckily, we both have a natural curiosity and are adventurous and positive people -- so we've been up for the challenge.
