I'm coming from living in NYC for over a decade and before from living in Ireland. Now residing and working in Japan as a photographer enjoying the differences and hurdles that Japan provides and for a foreigner to overcome. Somehow, though Japan as an island provides a very similar cultural landscape to that off ould Eire, same gossip, same drama, and same way to blow off steam. Hit the pubs on friday at the latest, and wash your sorrows away. The food is different however.
