Introduction

When I sold everything and left the U.S.A. I wanted to change myself. A life in a new country, climate and culture. Starting eating local food in season, throw off the 2 car garage pool lifestyle that was slowly killing me. After looking at all the E.U. countries, Portugal seemed to be the best fit, so far it is just the right size. Diagnosed bipolar a year before I left the States was a revelation I always knew I was different. Anywhere I am is a challenge. Here in Portugal I have been at my best and my worst. I dont have my close friendships of many years, but having access to good medical care at low cost is a revelation after the high costs of healthcare, mental health care in particular that was not helping me much in the States. The fresh local food that is easily available at low cost means I eat fresh fish, fruit and vegetables daily. The diabetes that traveled over with me and some 80 extra pounds have disappeared, my move to Portugal has saved my life. Together with The Citizen (aka Kevin 12 String), my best friend, lover and fellow adventurer, we have headed south for more sun and beaches to Lagos, on the southern coast. Now with a two kittens and my new therapist, we are still discovering new ways of living. The citizen has a talent for growing tomatoes and I still try to learn Portuguese. Each week there is another beach we can get to on the bus that stops right by our casa. Will I be here for the rest of my life? I believe that life happens when you stop making plans. Ill let you know. Bejinhos and Travel Well

Florida girl, not giving my age. I have lived in Portland, Oregon. Traveled for work and spent about 3 months a year in Asia and spent the last five years in Melbourne, Fl...where Kelly Slater is from.

Oh, gosh. It's not the place, it's just gotten so scary in the U.S. So much bad news, so many people hating each other. Bad food, bad air, bad water. Then, the BP oil spill, boy everyone was on top of that one, right? Nao calma...
