Anyone from Atenas? Need information by Rawbiz

Hello everyone. I got a job opportunity in Costa Rica which allows me to work 90% from home, 10% from San Jose office. I will relocate with family over the next year (two kids age 6 and 9) and our choice so far has been Atenas. It is fairly small, ...

Rawbiz, We are about 3 weeks from making our move to Atenas with our 3 children (14, 5, and 2), and I'm also mostly WFH with occasional trips to the office in the US. We want to be less than an hour to the airport, and we centered our search on ... Read More

Tico time by GinnyP

What can people tell us about this phrase? I've been told that things get done on "Tico Time" if that means monyada or tomorrow there. May be a problem with buildings - homes being done on time. What do you guys think of those? Ginnyp

It reminds me of our fact finding trip this last winter, my wife and I had told a real estate agent in Grecia we would meet him about 12:30p. We had lunch, and took our time, and walked through the park before calling him at about 1:15p...and ... Read More

re DRIVERS LICENCES NEW RULES by pebs

read carefully a bit confusing... copy/paste to your browser http://www.usexpatcostarica.com/costa-rica-drivers-license-has-other-90-day-rule/

As my attorney explained it to me, you would not be expected to apply for a DL as a tourist, but you would be as a resident. Since you would never be in the country more than 90 days as a tourist, you'd be precluded from obtaining a DL. However, ... Read More

One week visit: what should I NOT FORGET to do, bring, remember? by Celadon

I've traveled quite a bit, but never quite so solo to a place where I don't speak the native language. Beyond the obvious, what should I not forget to do, bring, remember, guard against, protect, etc? But should I absolutely do in Costa ...

Kohlerias, Yeah, I believe you're correct and they would be either English-only or English-primary, but there are no SACS accredited schools that I'm aware of (I'd LOVE to be wrong) in Atenas or Grecia (other than New Summit Academy ... Read More

Celadon, We just got back from out one-week first recon trip to Atenas and Grecia, and it included school trips in both areas (kindergarten and HS, private schools only) and this is what I would suggest: 1. For the kids, the school year runs from ... Read More

Use Waze, skip GPS? by Celadon

Hola, amigos! Our March visit plans are taking shape! A question for Costa Rican dwellers: I purchased the "international travel pass" from Verizon which turns out to be essentially the same price as changing SIM cards etc., plus all ...

I returned yesterday from Costa Rica, and I have a Garmin Nuvi w/Costa Rica maps as well as 1g of data from Sprint while we were there, and the Garmin ended up in the trunk as I relied on Waze entirely for most of the trip. The Garmin was fine, but ... Read More

Import an Auto from US by lafdbuf

I know this has been discussed prior, but over a year ago. I want to purchase a used Rav4, or other 4WD Toyota, in the US and Import to Costa Rica for use at my home in Costa Rica. I will be able to pick it up at a port or San Jose. Looking for ...

As MauroN wrote 'It does not matter how much you paid for the car, Hacienda (IRS tico) has a table with vehicle prices and the corresponding tax' so they will check on the vehicles value on their Blue Book'.Right, it took me time to ... Read More

Yeah, we have a loaded mini-van and I've got a very nice luxury car. The duty on either would have been insane, and neither would be well suited for Costa Rica. I currently want something very comfortable because I commute an hour each way in ... Read More

I've decide to ship my vehicle from the US to CR, instead of looking locally. I've heard quite a bit out the quality of used vehicles for sale in Costa Rica, and I have a rockstar mechanic here in the States whom I know can address enough ... Read More
