I work for a nationally owned company here in PNG, Trans Wonderland Limited. I moved here in January of 2010. I only go home, to Texas, once a year, in May. The reason I stay so long is that Americans are encouraged to stay away from home by giving significant income tax breaks for those who are home less than 30 days per year (go figure!) The timing is because I am pursuing my PhD from Texas Tech and am required to attend 2 weeks of class there each May. I love it here, do not live in a compound and do not hang out with the ex-pat crowd much, mainly because I have few business dealings with expats. But, I am certainly interested in meeting more people and interfacing with others of all nationalities, whether online, or in person.
I joined expat.com on 18 January 2011.
