Paying bills in Mexico by Priscilla

Hello everyone, What bills do you pay? If you are renting, are bills included in the price of rent, and is this common practice in Mexico? How can you pay your bills (e.g. online, at provider's store, at the post office)? Which is the most ...

Brian

Be aware that any past due amount in a CFE account is shown only on the back of one´s paper billing statement. The front of the statement shows only this period´s billing. Somehow I missed paying this year´s February statement but ... Read More

Let me chime in with my semi-knowledgeable 2 cents worth. Mexico has at least 4 separate channels for healthcare/hospitals: ISSSTE for gov't employees, IMSS for private sector employees, Seguro Popular for 'others' and private ... Read More

Your 64th year is the last year you can purchase health insurance in Mexico (I'm told by my insurance agent). Once you turn 65 I guess Seguro Popular is the only form of 'health insurance' available in Mexico. Read More

is it true ? too much robberies ? by moreto62

posted by cathy Dupree 2 months ago I live in Ajijic which is beautiful but want to give another slant on living in Mexico. I am leaving after 5 years because my partner died and the mess that was left with no will was magnified by the corrupt ...

Brian

Since this thread seems to have morphed into a discussion of 'best places to live' rather than the less pleasant topic of robberies, does anyone have any experience of living in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area? I vacationed there a few years ago ... Read More

Filing mexican TAX reports or not (Permanent resident Visa) by mexicogc

HI, I am a Canadian citizen and to become Mexican resident under the Permanent resident Visa. My researches and calls gave me the following: For Revenu Canada, must complete for NR73 for Non resident status, then pension providers will take 15% off ...

Brian

Gudgrief, the country where the payment originates is the country which does the withholding. And yes, 20% is ugly, more than I would pay in Canada - except that I couldn't afford to live on my pensions in Canada. Withholding may be optional ... Read More

Brian

gudgrief, alas, no, no refunds. 20% is the withholding on pension payments mandated by the Canada-Mexico tax treaty. And, if you don't file your non-resident tax form in Canada on time that 20% rate jumps to 35% until you do. Read More

Like you, I'm a Canadian receiving pension income from Canada. I've filed an annual return in Mexico beginning with the year that I qualified as a tax resident of Mexico. I have never had to pay any additional income tax in Mexico on those ... Read More

Brian

Now that I'm awake, travellight, I see that your posting data say you live in Campeche. I may be visiting that town for a few days in August. Is there much to do there as a tourist? And, are there many expats living in Campeche? I know Merida ... Read More

Thx for the response. We live in Mexico City but are looking to move to a cheaper city with a more relaxed lifestyle and Merida certainly qualifies on both counts. You say you live on the coast but I'm guessing not in Progreso itself. How do ... Read More

I'd be interested in hearing from folks who have settled in Merida or elsewhere in the Yucatan about coping with the extreme summers. Merida has so much going for it but summer heat is a challenge! Read More

I would check the internet to find the best hotel promotions for the time you plan on being in Merida. There are many boutique hotels in Merida, most within walking distance of the zocalo. As for going in July - it will be HOT so be prepared. The ... Read More

You don't mention whether those $1500 are C$ or US$ but I will assume after-tax C$. I have visited Merida, Progreso, Playa del Carmen, Valladolid but not Cancun. I doubt that you could live in Playa del Carmen on C$1500 a month, Valladolid is ... Read More

Recommend a broker for the Bolsa de Valores or MexDer by expat42451

Can anyone recommend a broker for the Bolsa de Valores or the MexDer markets? Thanks Expat

I think GBM Homebroker is your best, and probably only, option if you want an online broker with a reasonable minimum opening balance (100k pesos) and a reasonable website. If you are able to open an account with a larger deposit then you can talk ... Read More
