Hi! I moved to Bordeaux in May, where I work as a researcher at the University of Bordeaux 1. I am looking for new friends, but will also appreciate good advice/information about life in France/Bordeaux. I am originally from Russia, but I spent 6 years in the United States (NY/NJ), where I worked on my doctoral degree, and then for 5 years lived in Israel.

People are open and friendly; Pleasant University environment; most people in the University speak English, outside many speak Russian; food is always very fresh; pedestrian-friendly cities; high quality research in my field; other research institutions/places are very close.
Hamas rockets during 2008 war in Gaza; no transportation on Friday-Saturday; Beer Sheva is not very clean; regular interruptions of train service between Beer Sheva and Tel Aviv; extreme heat in Summer.
Studied for PhD in physics at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ (across the Hudson river from Manhattan)
New York is the capital of the World; many cultural attractions (theaters, concert halls etc.); many educated and intelligent people; very comfortable life.
Hard to make close friends, even though in general people are very friendly, polite and ready to help.
Birth, childhood, teenage years, studying in the University
Home, sweet home
