Introduction

Hi! I'm a retired veterinarian and college biology instructor who was born in CA and spent the last 17 yrs of my time in the U.S. in WA state. My husband and I built our dream home at the foot of Mt. Rainier and I proceeded to create what he called a "home for wayward animals," in reality a sanctuary for miniature donkeys with rickets, a pony with brain damage, chickens with frostbite, and assorted ducks, cockatoos, dogs and cats with issues. Over the years we have driven through New Zealand, ridden chicken buses through Central America and explored selected areas of Africa - home stays with families in Kenya, visiting an NGO in Rwanda, being tourists in Madagascar and Zanzibar. In 2016 Al retired and a few months later we bought a property in the greater Kruger National Park in South Africa where we live now surrounded by the big 5. And we placed every one of my rescued animals back in WA in wonderful homes except 5 cats who came to Africa with us! Turns out a life of high adventure is more to my taste than Al's so we will be divorcing and selling our home here. So I am looking for a venue for the next act, as a divorced retired woman, 66 yrs old and in good health. I am pretty self sufficient and I would do fine in the U.S. where I can go to movies on my own, wander book stores, go to college outreach seminars and classes, take day trips with the senior center. I'd probably choose Palm Springs or a city near San Diego if I move back to the U.S. But I like to be challenged a little - new country, new customs, new worldview. I am leaning towards Mexico and Central America as my next home. The idea of starting all over in a new country as a newly single woman gives me a few qualms so I am looking into Rosarito or San Felipe areas in Mexico so I'd have the U.S. nearby as a crutch. And it doesn't hurt that the cost of living would be lower since we'll be splitting all our assets.
