Transplanted from Louisiana to New York, to Florence, to New York...and hopefully back to Florence once more. I hope to find some resources and future friends here that can help me plan my move back to Italia, and share my love for all things Italian! Moved there when my daughter was 7/8 months and husband was going back to school.
It was small enough that I felt comfortable finding my way around, but "city" enough not to stick out like a sore thumb. I loved the rich design history and the friendliness of the locals.
Not much! One big thing was finding biologico produce and alternative foods, but as I got to know the city, I knew where to find what I needed.

Food, Family, Culture, warmth of strangers, and manners/politeness/"southern hospitality"
intense tropical summers, being surrounded by people who've never seen another part of the world, feeling different
