I am a longtime expat resident of the Cayman Islands in the British West Indies. If you're rich, you will recognise the place as an "offshore" tax haven; if you're poor, it's a divers' paradise. I began writing a blog on local topics, written for a local audience, but after a while I spread my wings to cover issues of general and international interest. It is not always read with pleasure by our local rulers, who generally operate a censorship regime in respect of expatriates. (People intending to live in Cayman ought to read my blog's archives to find out what awaits them.) Sometimes, for a change, I write about my travels in Europe and the Middle East in the 1960s, and about historical topics. www.barlowscayman.blogspot.com

company manager, house-husband, Chamber of Commerce Manager, human-rights activist
it's home, and a very comfortable one
its politics and its indentured-labour immigration policies & practices
writing stories and doing family-history research
meeting English relations, and enjoying life in what is a very beautiful little city
recovering from a stressful time
we met some very nice expats
waiting for the baby to be born and be old enough to go travelling with us
the last of the peaceful times...
Still trying to get enough money together to travel forever
a very pleasant expats' life
learning to make money on the stock market so that we could retire forever
pleasant, easy living
working
a really, really fun time as a young married couple
nothing; it was perfect
working; does "getting married" count as a project?
watching hockey and making good money
too cold to live there forever
working during the winter
it was a fun time
too cold
born, educated, worked
my first homes
it's a fine place, just not where I wanted to be
