I'm from Fort Worth Texas. DFW is one of the largest metros in the USA so I grew up with a lot of convenience, a lot of technology and a lot of never-have-to-drive-more-than-15-minutes-for-anything-EVER. I met my husband online 4 years ago and finally made the big move to Australia, his home, in May 2009 to be married. We are so happy! The only catch is that he works in a coal mine...in the middle of nowhere. The town we're in has less than 6000 people, is 2 hrs from the "city" (where the fanciest department store is Target) and runs on a completely different schedule than anything I'm used to. In spite of its inconveniences, I believe I'm experiencing the REAL Australia in all of it's un-americanized individual glory and it's a world no one immigrating to Sydney or Melbourne will ever see. I'm pretty lucky. :)
