My name is Susan and I have lived and worked in Washington State in the USA all my life. A few years ago the district where I teach mandated all middle schools to offer Spanish for high school credit. There was nobody qualified to teach the course at my school so rather than hiring outside of the school I decided to step up and take the classes I needed to become qualified myself. It never occurred to me that Spanish would change my life. Travel was not something I longed to do, in fact I am sort of a homebody and had been content in my little world. Teaching Spanish has compelled me to know the language better and become more fluent so I am a better teacher. I went to Cancun last summer for a Spanish workshop. In the spring of 2012 I took a small group to Spain. This summer I am going to the Dominican Republic for another Spanish workshop. February of 2013 I take another small group to Costa Rica. One thing has lead to another and now I want to teach internationally.
I joined expat.com on 09 June 2012.
I teach middle school in a small town about 40 minutes from Seattle. Next year I plan on becoming an Expat, and moving to South or Central America to teach. My ultimate goal is to become fluent in Spanish.
Washington state is beautiful and I have loved living here but it is time to experience more of what the world has to offer.
