Hi! My name is Dini ZJama, from Canada and mostly between Canada, Africa and Istanbul, Turkey for international development and educational projects that are carried out by friends from Canada, USA and Europe. I am based in Istanbul Turkey also lived in Ankara for 5 months in 2014. My hometown is Windsor, Ontario. Turkey has always interested me and I love many things about this wonderful, ancient country with lots nice people wherever you go. I am learning Turkish, French and Arabic on a slow pace. I live like the locals do. On part-time basis, I volunteer for schools in Africa where I helped develop some curriculum framework for various vocational programs. I currently work with a technical college in Somalia where I collaborate with basic computer courses, business, languages, communication and number of vocational programs including veterinary and agricultural skills.
I joined expat.com on 12 January 2013.
I help schools and hospitals in Africa. I am learning Turkish "Cok seviyorum." meaning I love it very much.
I like that you are made to be aware of how cool it's to dress up professional or nice casual outfits. The Turks have good sense of fashion. Very nice. Food for anyone? I can sometimes like the food, the grab and go type, but it often has lots of salt and oil before I even talk about how needlessly expensive it gets sometimes when the wages don't match or the average pay for workers is not up to par.
I don't like the fact that everyone here in Turkey seems to smoke cigarettes-the young, the old, pretty ladies, professional looking people, cooks (I hate this the most). Service people everywhere will just light up a cigarette without asking you if it bothers you or not, taxi drivers. shopkeepers you just name it.
