Profile: I was born and raised in The Gambia, West Africa. I migrated to the U.S. in 1994 and have lived mostly in New York and Tennessee. I joined the U.S. Army in 2001 as a private and was able to make Sergeant in 2004 and Staff Sergeant in 2005. I was commissioned in 2008 as a U.S. Army officer Public Affairs/Relations officer. I am currently a Captain in charge of a nation-wide recruiting program overseeing 96 civilian employees. Experience: Throughout my time in the army, I have worked as a Human Resources Assistant, Recruiter, Public Affairs Officer and Program Manager. I am currently a Program Manager for the Army National Guard in charge of a nation-wide recruiting program with oversight of 96 employees and in direct coordination of issues that affect more than 3000 recruiters all over the USA. The recruiting program I oversee averages 1000 applicants a day and I am required to travel and train new developments as well as provide some sustainment training to all 50 states in the United States. I have trained leaders as well as end-users on the program I oversee. I wear a dual hat as a Public Affairs/Relations Officer and this position requires that I conduct media training for my unit as well as other military units as when requested. I am also assigned other positions within my unit such as Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Officer and Sexual Assault Prevention Officer. Education: I graduated (Cum Laude) college in 2005 with a BSc. degree in Criminal Justice and obtained a MSc. degree in National Security Studies in 2012. I have also completed several courses ranging from basic leadership courses to advanced leadership courses in the military. I have a diploma in Public Affairs and also completed the Captains career course in Human Resources Management. I have also completed courses on all the added assignments I currently hold. After more than a decade in the military, I am seeking a career in the civilian world that will afford me the opportunity to help others, grow as person both professionally and personally and also utilize the experience I have in the military.
